Bought my sister Lady Gaga Heartbeats by Monster

Thread Starter
My little sister's birthday was yesterday, and I wanted to get her something that had the potential to last her a little while. She loves her iPod, but I always see her with cheap JVC earbuds. For a couple years now, I have told her to get some decent earphones.

Well, the big brother in me said I would get her some myself.

She's a huge Lady Gaga fan, so I bought her the Heartbeats by Monster. My other choice were the Klipsch S4, which probably were better sound wise and cheaper for me ha. But I knew she wouldn't care as much for the little audio imperfections as much as the overall look of the phones.

I was impressed with the little touches the headphones had. For instance, the tapeworm wires looked and felt great. There were little hearts surrounding the L and R, and Lady Gaga's signature on the cable splitter (where the cable splits into a Y). Keep in mind, my sister is 16 and likes that glitzy stuff, so these easily would keep her happy looks-wise. Me, I love my black Sennheiser IE8's.

I had a very limited listening experience with them, so I'm not sure how much I can tell you about them. Plus, I'm not the best reviewer around.

Basically, bass is decent, but I expected more of a Dr. Dre sound. Mids are solid, highs are good.

The fit was good out of the box. I believe there were two other sets of tips (way too limited). I tried the over the ear method, but that didn't work until I switched right and left. They were very comfortable that way. Then, I did it with cables hanging down, and they were again comfortable.

With today's pickings and the competition, they sounded like they should have cost $50-$70. But with Lady Gaga's name on them, they charged a little more.

If you have a sister in need of them, go for it. Otherwise, I'm not sure I would catch any of you with them on.

*Hides Heartbeats in desk* Still an improvement over cheap JVC earbuds.

Oh! Thanx! You saved me from wasting 100$. I'm not Lady Gaga fan & own a lot of other iems, but this looked great. I wanted to buy them for rock & trance (etys 4p i have are good, but lack a punch), but if you are saying this things sound for 50$... I think it's not the same 50$ as on Re2 & other bang for the bucks phones. If you would have one more chance to compare it with your ie8 - that would be great.

Gaga...you are kidding me?

After acquiring and returning a set of Turbines and demo'ing Beats for a bit, I would never spend what they're asking for any Monster audio reproduction product ever again.

That being said, if they're for your little sister and couldn't care less about sound quality they're a perfect gift (my little sister loves her too).

audio is a very personal thing of course. I love the Turbine and am in no way ashamed of saying so. I reckon that Monster can make commercial success from quality and from advertisements. And, if they are raising the bar (for price) and performance above the likes of Bose and Skullcandy in people's minds, who cares if headfi hates them.

I for one am happy. I have not heard the gaga though and to tell the truth, don't like the look so much, but who cares; they are headphones which are putting headphones on the map for a lot of people. Like it or not, fashion and pop culture (which most hifi companies ignore) is the way to win people into the hobby.

It's only a while till the more stodgy brands follow suit. UE have already started and I see it as a good thing. More players, better quality, perhaps better pricing. We can sniff in the air, pretend to be superior, but at the end of the day, we benefit from the likes of companies whom we snub doing well at market.

O, to each his own, of course.

I actually wanted to like it. Especially after searching these forums and reading your particular posts about it also

They just weren't what I was expecting, which I describe as clear and articulate, being able to pick out details that aren't normally apparent. That being said, I returned them for Ety HF-2's and I'm much happier, even if there's less bass (which I find I prefer).

I just bought a pair of the improved version of these, the HeartBeats by Lady GaGa 2.0. I love them. I wear them. I flaunt them. My family is now becoming practiced at making it look to others as if they are not with me as we walk down the street, me wearing them.

Their rather long ear stalks and the rigid wire cover entering each earpiece make insertion super easy. Their bass-rich sound is FUN. I use them on synthetic-rich music (e.g. Hip-Hop, electronics, Lady GaGa (of course)), to the exclusion of my Shure SE 535s, which I reserve for acoustic, natural music (classical, jazz, folk).
