My little sister's birthday was yesterday, and I wanted to get her something that had the potential to last her a little while. She loves her iPod, but I always see her with cheap JVC earbuds. For a couple years now, I have told her to get some decent earphones.
Well, the big brother in me said I would get her some myself.
She's a huge Lady Gaga fan, so I bought her the Heartbeats by Monster. My other choice were the Klipsch S4, which probably were better sound wise and cheaper for me ha. But I knew she wouldn't care as much for the little audio imperfections as much as the overall look of the phones.
I was impressed with the little touches the headphones had. For instance, the tapeworm wires looked and felt great. There were little hearts surrounding the L and R, and Lady Gaga's signature on the cable splitter (where the cable splits into a Y). Keep in mind, my sister is 16 and likes that glitzy stuff, so these easily would keep her happy looks-wise. Me, I love my black Sennheiser IE8's.
I had a very limited listening experience with them, so I'm not sure how much I can tell you about them. Plus, I'm not the best reviewer around.
Basically, bass is decent, but I expected more of a Dr. Dre sound. Mids are solid, highs are good.
The fit was good out of the box. I believe there were two other sets of tips (way too limited). I tried the over the ear method, but that didn't work until I switched right and left. They were very comfortable that way. Then, I did it with cables hanging down, and they were again comfortable.
With today's pickings and the competition, they sounded like they should have cost $50-$70. But with Lady Gaga's name on them, they charged a little more.
If you have a sister in need of them, go for it. Otherwise, I'm not sure I would catch any of you with them on.
