M³ capacitor voltages

Hey guys, just joined the forum and wanted to say hi and ask a question also.
I am doing my first amp and PSU build and decided to go with a 24V σ11 and M³. I am very excited and have been working on ordering parts for the past week or so.
In AMB's parts list he says to use 50V electrolytics for the M³ and 63V electrolytics for the σ11. I am looking at using the Silmic II's for both and the most readily available parts are 35V. Will these work just fine with the PSU voltage at 24V? Also, will using a higher voltage capacitor just ensure the capacitor works for a longer period of time?

If you're running the M3 off 24V, 35V caps should be fine - even 25V caps are fine. Just a note though - higher voltage caps usually have higher ripple rejection. Capacitor life span has no correlation to voltage rating.

Thanks FallenAngel. Well, since I don't really need "boutique" caps in the power supply, maybe I should use a different cap with a higher voltage rating for that and still use the 35V Silmic II's in the amp.

I'd use these from amb's parts list:

Panasonic FM (Digi-Key 100µF/50V: P12392-ND, 330µF/50V: P12399-ND)

These are all used for PSU filtering (C4, C5 and C7), and FMs are really good for that application; I'd take these over Silmics anyday.

I had actually read a post or two about those Panasonic's and everyone seems very pleased with them. I'll check around for them, I noticed Mouser and Digikey both don't have the values I need (in stock).

What the heck do you mean by "ripple rejection"?

Mouser doesn,t carry the FMs. Digikey is showing a ship date of 12/10/2009 for the 100uf/50V P12392-ND that they are currently out of, so not a big deal. Digikey also carries Silmics BTW.

Lol, I had never heard of ripple rejection but I assumed you meant ripple current. So guys I have to ask what's the big deal with Muse and Rubicon Black Gate's and Silmic's in signal path applications.

Everywhere I turn I see people who swap out caps and find that these seem to sound better. I can understand that these are probably not suited for power supply use but in the signal path do they really make that much of a difference?

Now let me just say I have a 2-year degree in electronics, but this audio stuff is a whole new realm for me. I have a lot to learn, so I've just been reading as much as I can about all this.

the physical size of the capacitor also effects the the power dissipation.

Ok, I just went over the schematic again and understand there are no electrolytics in the signal path. I should just go with what amb lists as well as Pars recommended, the Panasonic FM's.
