Micro usb to 3.5mm?

I've been using my JVC HA-FXC50-R's for awhile now and they sound great. But, I'm getting a new phone saturday. I was in the store looking at the Samsung Flight and decided that's the one I'm going to get. The only problem I have with it is the absence of a 3.5mm headphone jack. What it does have is a micro usb port.

I've seen some micro usb headphones, but they didn't look too great. Is there any such thing as a micro usb to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter? I need to get one asap if I'm going to use my phone as an MP3 player as I had planned.

There is not a universal USB to headphone converter for phones. USB is simply an electrical standard that talks to the software on the device. So IF something exists that will do what you want (and it might not), it would be specific to that model of phone.

Does the Samsung Flight play MP3's? If so, it's got to have a jack for headphones. It's most likely a 2.5 mm jack, and all you need is a 2.5 to 3.5 adapter.

EDIT: Found it. It does have a 2.5 mm jack, and there is an adapter specifically targeted at that model. It's called "OEM Samsung 2.5mm to 3.5mm Stereo Headset Adapter AAET403TBE".

It has a full media player. Does MP3 and AAC music formats and MPEG4, AMR, H.263, and WMV video formats. Also takes up to 16GB Micro SDHC cards.

I've read plenty of reviews, and played with the phone in person. It doesn't have a 2.5 or 3.5mm audio jack at all. Only micro usb. Read this and see for yourself. They have headphones with a micro usb plug at the store you can buy for them but they look like pretty generic earbuds.

Weird. The adapter above has the Samsung Flight listed as compatible. I guess that's a mistake.

The rest of my post should still be correct though. USB is an electrical standard, but does not specify what software is on the other end for audio playback. So any adapter would be specific to Samsung. Also, USB is digital, so the adapter would likely need to include a DAC.

EDIT: It appears that the Samsung and many other new phones are actually an 11-pin mini USB, which does have analog on some of the extra pins. So no DAC should be needed. Looks like the adapters people linked below might work.

Hmm.. not sure what I'm going to do then. I might have to buy the headphones that are made for the phone, but they cost $20 and who knows how they sound...

Here's a link to them. If anyone could provide any information on them, it would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, so I chatted with an AT&T sales rep online and apparently I can use any bluetooth headphones with this phone.

Any of those you guys would recommend? I want something that sounds at least almost as good as my JVC HA-FXC50-R's but they need to be as cheap as possible. I also prefer IEMs.

Hm, looks like that's the current trend with cellphones...

in Cell Phones & PDAs on eBay!

Your best bet is look for something like this for that specific model. Apparently these are not that compatible between makers.

I would avoid Bluetooth for any serious music listening. Not only the bandwidth is not enough for quality music streaming, that's one more piece of equipment that needs charging pretty much every day...

Found headphone adapter for the Flight

All - I've been looking for months now, and finally found one. It is a Samsung brand micro-usb to 3.5mm stereo female plug, with cheapo earbuds included. I've tried it on my Flight and it works perfectly with any headphones; has an inline switch too, so if you get a call with your cans on you can easily answer. The link for the ebay store is eBay Stores - timesaviour, Chargers, Battery Chargers items on eBay.com. The item name is "Handsfree Headset for Samsung Flight a797". It is a two-piece item; an adapter and a pair of headphones. Like I said, the phones ain't much, but the adapter alone is worth the $10 price tag, shipping included! Took about 1 week to ship.

Hey, thanks so much for the link to that Flight adapter....i had read in another place that the Strive adapter wouldn't work with the Flight; anyway, i just ordered one. Thanks again....i was hoping they'd finally do this!

Hi, Hopefully Stevedis is still around?  I have a samsung mythic and am interested in what you found to work with the adapter.  Specifically, were you using simply headphones or a headset with it's own mic.  I would like to use this adapter with an aviation headset which has a noise canceling microphone but need to know whether the adapter will support this.  Thanks for tip
