Thanks for the input. I've had my SHA-GOLD modded and it sounds good (as a pre amp too).I heard some people prefer SHA-1 to SHA-GOLD that's why I am curious.

During the time when I still own the HP2, I also had the Mapletree Ear+ purist HD, SP Slam PPX3 and the RSA Hornet M amp. Even though I felt the Hornet M amp was not an adequate amp for the HP2, I felt it provided enough current for the HP2 to sound better than the other two amps. It's not easy at all to find a suitable amp for the HP2, therefore I had to sell it.

Flats =! comfies/soft pads.

AFAIK only TTVJ sells flats--proper flats, as Joe Godo (sic) intended--unless the local store you mentioned is selling used.

Grado Flat Pads - $35.00 : TTVJ, Todd The Vinyl Junkie

Edit: also, those HP2s are gorram pristine. WANT.

Does anyone know if the Zana works well with HP-1000? I'm still trying to get some kind of shortlist.
