What's your weakest link?

Finding what component is holding your system back is no easy task, it can be anything from an interconnect to a complete source replacement. There's no easy formula and the higher you climb the ladder from mid-fi into high-end the harder these decisions become.
The opportunity to hear any of these components in your own system or home is for some of us simply impossible. So how do your gauge a component up grade, reviews? Meets? Stab in the dark?

I think the interconnect is holding my system back.
A simple DIY one I made some 10-12 years back using Supra cable and RCA connectors. The source material, transport, DAC, amplifiers and headphones should be "up there"..

The weakest link in my system is my digital front end and it has always been that way.

My headphones aren't as capable of resolving detail as my DAC and amp are and I know my digital components aren't entirely 75 Ohm in the way they interconnect as they should, so the two things I am considering are orthos or Stax, and upgrading the internal digital wiring as required.

The weakest link in my system (if I can call it a system) is my ear... The tinnitus is killing me...

My current mood (exams and work) is my weakest link right now. Most of anything just sounds bad.

I think my amp is easily the weakest link in my system. But I've already wailed enough about how hard it is to find a good K1000 amp without hearing it.

Quick answer, reviews,meets,"PM. friends here" and try to buy used (big one to me) and hope all you loose is shipping money.

Here is how I am making my decision:....

I just got new interconnects to try, so next is source, But it is an interesting question.

I sent my amp (Balanced Singlepower Extreme Black gate output caps etc) out to some one (I trust and respect here on head-fi) to look at,, to make sure it is safe (we all know the issues) He found a few things that were "head scratching wrong". I got it back and it sounds great!! Then I got the new HD 800, added a Moon Audio Blue Dragon cable. Wow!! I have been going through my CD collection faster then a hungry rabbit through a bundle of carrots. To me it is what I have been looking for. Now which is the weakest link? Tuff call, I had BlueJeans interconnects so that was easy our head-fi friendly dealer Drew (Moon Audio shameless plug) to the rescue, lent me a set of XLR Black Dragon interconnects, to try and to use at our up coming meet here in DC.

So I say source because I think I can get my money out of my current source "Meridian G 08" and the Singlepower amp is worthless in the used market today. I believe that the amps. that have been gone through and have been made right and safe will eventually come back up to fair market price but who knows?. So that is making my decision for me.

But I think that my lack of a source (Dac), and lack of an amp are what is holding mine back. This will soon be fixed in about 3 weeks, aka Christmas!

Wow my amp has way too much gain for dolphin ears,,,3 clicks on the attenuator is almost to loud now, I would blow up my new ears

New amp or ears? Which first? I hate making decisions.

Probably my Phoenix amp, it'll get replaced with a b22 down the road.

My amp. I have a tweaked SRM-717 and while it is remarkable and can resolve anything that I can feed it in terms of expensive sources and cables, I know that the T2, BHSE, or WES will beat it out. Hence I am on the prowl for the right amp.
