But then if you bought one of each of them, you would no longer have the money. Don't ask me how I know this...

But isn't money meant to be spent? Course, looking at the bailouts...maybe we shouldn't discuss rampant spending for joy etc

Wayne, can you adopt me already? I cook a mean meal and I clean after myself. I am allergic to cold and the heat would do me well, oh and I'm pretty decent at cutting lawns and trimming hedges.

Tom (bozebuttons) is. I'm not, although I have met him. He's a really nice guy. Way back when (circa 2002-2003 or so), when the NY regional meets were much smaller than they are now, Tom organized a couple of meets that were held at Grado Labs in Brooklyn (which is when I met John).

You're missing two things on your chest that I quite enjoy when it comes to selecting my domestic helpers.

Indeed I do! But I am willing to undergo electrolysis and laser treatment not to mention "enhancement" surgery. You will just look, right Wayne?

Nah, I won't even look. Trust me on that. But you can come anytime and listen to my headphones and speakers for as long as you wish.

music man, zanth, and whoever's listening, I too have an EAR HP4 and am wondering what amp(s) you thought better with PS1000. If I keep the HP4 I was wondering what tubes you liked with it for this headphone.
I think i have some more burn in to do on the PS1K, but it's definitely a keeper. I'll likely keep the HD800 as well. may need to think about different interconnect for CD to amp too, etc.

i am using the cullen modded ps audio gcha in favor of the ear hp4. it is less money but that doesn't mean everything. i like ss with them better. i am not getting rid of the hp4 though. i have some nos mullards don't know which ones i don't want to open it right now sorry.

You should give the Cary Audio SLI-80 a try. It has two working modes - push-pull pentode and SET. Both are interesting and the p-p is of my preference while I know some others choose single ended triode.

On the other hand I think you will lose nothing when trying a high class SS but I don't know which one as I'm using a self-designed DIY amp and compare to the Cary or ASL from memory.

i wish i jad bought the cary. but i wanted the xciter. i didn't need a speaker amp.

honestly the cullen gcha "is" a very high class ss amp. they no longer make it. you have to buy a stock amp then have them tear it apart. so now instead of $1,300 it is like $1,800 or something. however, it is fully balanced now with balanced inputs. no balanced output though.

Thanks guys, unfortunately, discontinued, plus tubes, plus mods, rules that out for now. My wife's hi-jacking me to Japan in about 6 months and I have a 21 month old son to handle (she helps out with him at least ). I am pretty fried and am hoping to simplify. After an aborted Blue Hawaii order, Zana Deux, and tube rolling the HP4 and EAR CD Player , and all the other tweaks and experiments, I put in an order for the new Headroom Balanced Desktop Ultra & Power source. At least I got 30 days if it doesn't satisfy.
Still I am interested in other suggestions, but Solid State is what I am interested in trying most now, preferably balanced.
