This may sound silly, but I'm a huge anime geek, so bear with me. Some of you may know about Takashi Iwai's headphone guidebook, and I'm curious: are there any good 'phones in there? I'm looking for some that I can wear around town (I don't mind if they're a little big).

My requirements:

-do not require amp
-closed/circumaural
-<$200

I mainly listen to electronic/rock, so I would like heaphones with good--but not overpowering--bass.

Here are a few links to some pics from the book:

(Scroll down to the bottom of the images--there's a link for more.)

This is a big help to me, so thanks in advance!

so.. they have to be in the guide book?

this might be helpful:

EDIT: there are plenty of amazing cans in the book, but entry level cans features aren't necessarily that great..

EDIT2: so, if it has to be from the book.. I'd say get an one of the lower end AKG's... k240, k271

I've seen those ones, too. A lot of great pics, but the model numbers for the 'phones aren't listed.

They don't have to be in the guide, but I would really like it.

The AKG K-271's look like they'd fit the bill.

K-271's on Amazon

You mean I can drive them w/o an amp, wear them on the go, etc.? I've heard the bass on the K271s isn't exaclty great.

EDIT: I found another page with some new pics:

(I really like the HD 414Cs...too bad they're discontinued

BTW, the heaphones don't necessarily have to be closed/circumaural, just something I could wear in public reasonably.

I've never really understood the fascination about these girls, but this one is kinda cute, and is wearing some real classics, the Sony V6.

Can anyone tell me what she's wearing? They look like Ultrasones...
Also, has anyone listened to the Panasonics she has on her arm?

you seem to have linked to the wrong picture.

On a side note. If anyone finds complete scans of this book, let me know.

I might just have to buy it.

Yes, there's something very casual/cool about that old 80's design, and they have a sound to match it.

And my home setup, uhm, I guess that in much the same way that you are a sucker for Anime, I'm a sucker for the writings of the late mr. Douglas Adams.
If you read what is said about the Heart of Gold here, I think you will understand the first part of my setup, the following three are of a nature.

Edit: Nullstring, there were a link in the first link you posted.

Flickr won't let me link to my pics! > Anyway, just follow my previous link, scroll to the bottom set of images on the right, and click browse. She's the second from the right on the top row.

http://www.pireze.org/blog/?p=3108 <- Search for "[Download: PNG Full Size Archive]", and click the link. (holy geez it's over 600 MB)

There's the pics, at least. I'll see if it includes actual reviews.
