New DAP- Ipod Touch 3g vs Zune HD - Page 2

i have the zune120 and the touch 2g,and if the most important thing for you is SQ,then the touch wins hands down.instrument seperation, bass, soundstage, clarity, treble all are better on the touch.the zune may have a stronger bass but the touch have the best tight accurate punchy bass i have ever heard in a portable player(it is that good).as for the the browser,i dont like it that much i much much prefer opera browser and mini on my htc pro but safari is good enough except for the stupid text rendering when you zoom in,it doesnt render the text to fit the screen, which is a major thing for me.zune desktop software is far better than the aged itunes and more easy to use and sync.apps arent a major thing for me but when i am bored i like to kill the time with some games(especially online games like eliminate pro whic is arguably the best online game available).i dont like apple or their marketing and pricing strategy,i am actually kind of MS fanboy, but that doesnt prevent me from saying that the ipod touch is a great product and is better than the zune.hope thats help

I don't necessarily think one is better than the other. Personally I have listened to both and think they both sound pretty good. The ipod is more neutral and flat whereas the zune hd which I have sounds a bit warmer which I personally prefer. The soundstage to me is a bit wider on the zune hd paired along with the um2.

Since the op has the um3x, I think the zune hd would be an excellent match in terms of sound. My um2 sings beautifully through the zune hd. It is the best match to the um2 compared to all other DAPs I have tried which are cowon d2, ipod touch 3g, iaudio7, iriver clix 1st and 2nd generation.

The fact that no eq is required with the um2 bears testament to the fact as to how well they pair together. I am guessing the OP would really enjoy the um3x on the zune hd.

I use my Nokia e71 for anything else I want to do. So my Zune HD works solely as a music player and at times as a video player. So if that is all that you are looking for then you will not be disappointed with the Zune HD.

plugging into headphone output doesn't make a huge difference to the LOD. In fact, there are some places where plugging the headphone is better for sound than the LOD. If you use Wifi, you will see what I mean. With Wifi, the headphone is free from annoying artifacts which get transmitted through the LOD.

It is a myth that the headphone output is that much worse than the LOD. There are more things in the way of the signal, but I doubt a very large number would ever hear the difference. Actually, the headphone out often is able to separate channels better than a LOD
