My W3 phones are dead, long live the ....? (recommendations needed) - Page 2

So I have a pair of Image S4i phones on order, but I got 'em from Amazon so I'd have no hassles returning them if they don't work for me. The price difference between those and the HF2 made the decision, as well as my weird fascination with dynamic driver phones. I don't know if I hope they rock or hope they're lousy and therefore I can get back to the BA phones that I know so well...

Ex-W3/SA5/Atrio M5/ER40/er6i/ACH-700/Custom 3 owner here..repeat after me ... "They need 100+ hours of burn-in, and they will sound great." They will. But don't be stuck using the gels. I used a bi-flange from Ety and it works great.

S4s do seem to require a lot of burn-in, because of harsh treble. Still a good choice though!

Yeah, I saw you favored those, Tsarn, that was part of why I took the plunge. I seem to recall you have very similar tastes in phones to my own. Am putting together the burn-in code right now. And I'm really glad to hear they're good with bi-flanges, I've become spoiled by the flanged tips I used on my Westones and really don't want to go back to foamies again.

In fact, those white flanges also work well with the S4s, but need to trim the stalk to even at the bottom, unlike with the W3s. I hope you like them, I can't believe how nice they sound for $79.

I had to trim the stalks with my W3 as well, that's no problem here. I'm sure I'll post up one of my usual mega-reviews after burn-in and getting used to 'em.

In other news, I've decided to write a java applet for anyone who wants to try my burn-in regimen, it should be up within a week.

in the meantime, you should just send in your busted 3 to Fisher Audio to get refitted into custom shells (unless of course the drivers themselves are mangled)... can't beat their deal for a pair of customs.

Does anyone know what the W3 drivers are supposed to look like? The driver is exposed in the damaged phone, but it doesn't look damaged at all to my eyes.
