Mods - feel free to move this - am posting in the forum that seems to get the most views simply because I think you guys deserve a little credit. [/brownnose]
I ocassionaly visit another (non-audio) board, in addition to a couple of other audio forums, and the non-audio forum is a *total* flamefest much of the time. Issues like global warming really bring passions to the surface and a new thread will often have pages upon pages of really intense debate. I'm not talking kiddies swearing at one another, I'm talking half-page rants followed by half-page rebuttals, often in excruciating detail. The level of effort has to be seen to be believed - the burn-in debate is about the closest I've seen here, but there are multiple threads like that every day. Its intense to say the least.
I'm not sure how they pick their mods, but these guys are 24/7 fanatics, deleting posts to the extent that you will be left wondering what provoked the few responses left on a page. They often close entire threads after 60 or 70 pages, apparently ticked off that they've had to delete so many posts. By the time you see a post from one of them warning that they will close the thread if yada-yada-yada, the thread is usually history.
I dont know if the Head-Fi mods are laidback or simply dont have time to engage in that level of oversight, but thus far I'd have to say that I prefer the way things are run here, even if the other forum is often entertaining while it lasts !
