I think I spend more time reading head-fi than I do listening to music

Thread Starter
I admit, a large part of the appeal to me is in chasing after the technology. I mean, I do enjoy the music (because what would be the point of this hobby without it?), but at times it's the tech game that really gets me. Researching, comparing stats and figures, upgrading components, heck sometimes it's just the fun of building something.

It's just the way my personality type works. The closest analogy I can think of is in video games, via RPGs. Oftentimes, I get absorbed by the leveling and number crunching rather than the story.

I was thinking of creating a poll, but I couldn't quite decide how to phrase the questions/options.

So how about you guys? What draws you in?

In the end it is music but anyone here has to admit he is after chasing upgrades.

Learning, sharing, killing time, dreaming of new gear, hit f5 on the most beautiful people thread

Yeah same prolly. Sad reality huh? I actually am sort of ashamed of that fact.

Oh well, right now I'm listening to music AND trolling the forums. Multi talented!!!!

I would not agree any more, your thread is the reality most of us tend to ignore.Would appreciate if everyone contributed and agreed, atleast it may bring down the guilt.

I feel naked on this forum without some phones on. I do listen to music in itself, but have to admit a large portion of listening is done while reading/posting.

I've started noticing that happening myself. The ratios tipping even more in favour of reading head-fi since I sold my portable amp and am looking for a desktop:

I managed 40-50 at an anime forum when I first discovered forums. Well there went half a year before I stopped. My life was pretty boring while my post count went past 10 000.

LOL

Those days

Amen, brother. It's a sickness, which has pretty much been established. Show of hands...how many have said to themselves "I need to stop reading HF and start spending my time doing more interesting things [including more listening]."

I know I have. But then, just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!

Me, and I only have about 150 posts. Oh, I wrote that as $150. I need to stop reading $150 IEM threads.

In the end music is what really matters.
But reading, learning and sharing information about gear is part of the deal as well. At least for many of us..

Simple solution:

Add the line "0.0.0.0 www.head-fi.org " to your hosts file.

Then you will have no choice but to listen to music more than read head-fi, at least when using that particular computer.

The longer more complicated solution is to make cognitive or behavioral changes. Why do you want new stuff? Is it because you don't like your current stuff, or because the new stuff is "cooler"?
