im in the same boat want to upgrade from the AD700, Ive only had them like a week, but specifically bought them to see if an open sound was acceptable as i had gotten so used to my closed cans, & i must say i love the open sound but i didn't want to jump right in head first spending too much money. AD900 is what im probably looking at next but im hoping i can wait till a local headphone meet happens b4 taking the plunge to go & spend more, heh.

The AD900 is better detailed but is significantly more money and for many is not the upgrade they were hoping for, so either buy used to keep your costs down or hopefully hear a pair at a meet somewhere first. I ended up trading away my AD900 (for a significant loss from what I paid) because I just wasn't satisfied with the sound. Meanwhile I have just given away my AD700 to my Mother for Christmas simply because I knew she would be wowed by them (and she was), otherwise I would have kept them and may indeed buy them again.

Hopefully you can try several brands at a meet to find the right one for you.
