Rock/Metal Headphones, around 100$? - Page 2

For $100 and you want a Grado sound? Alessandro MS1. It's way better than the SR60,80 and 125.

My music is encoded at mp3 320kbps (L.A.M.E encoder),
and it's played directly from the computer(onboard soundcard).

After some reading, I've found out that Grado SR80i and Creative Aurvana Live(same as Denon D1000) are my best options.

Which headphones do you think I should choose, and why?

Thanks.

I must say, i have yet to see a headphone made out of rock. But most headphones will have some kind of metal in it. Just a question of what sound signature you want

o.k., I have a problem.
I just heard the SR80/SR60 leak like hell, which means they aren't good options for me.
In addition, I can't get Alessandro headphones in here.
Any other options? Sennheiser, AKG, ...?

If sound leakage is a problem, then you have to rule pretty much every open-design headphones out and stick to closed ones. Denon 1001 is closed I think.

Is the sound leakage in the SR80i really that loud?
And no, some open headphones doesn't leak that much.
Any thought about Sennheiser HD485, AKG k240 or Denon D1000/1001?

Thanks.

No, if you keep volume down on moderate levels. Grados and Alessandros tend to leak more than some other open headphones due to lack of dampening in the cups, but its nothing one should be alarmed IMHO.

No thoughts on either of those. I have owned K240S but really, it has been something like 3 years since the last time I listened it, and I have only very vague memory of what it sounded like. It was nothing amazing, but it was not bad either.

I must admit, I'm pretty alarmed from the Grado headphones, because of various of reasons(soundstage, sound leakage, comfortability,..)
Anyways, In your profile I've seen you had Equation RP-21.
What do you think about them? I heard they are pretty good all-arounders, and I can easily get them in here.

They werent bad, but comfort was so and so (too small cups for my ears) and sound was also bit too bassy.

If you are in doubt, just buy SR60 as first higher-quality headphone. They arent that expensive, and ARE very very good headphones for the money. Just to see where you are dipping your toes in.

Why knock a brand of phones if you've never even tried them?

All open phones leak about the same, leaking is not a Grado 'thing'. And if you're wanting good soundstage, then that will be limited by closed phones, so if you NEED isolation, that's something you have to live with.

Choose your compromise; you can't have it all.

This. Every headphone has a compromise somewhere.

I know a store an hour from here that sell Grado headphones, so I think I'll go there next week and check those out.
If it will be good, I will buy the SR60, and use my K412 or my HD201 for genres where the SR60 aren't that good.
If it won't be so good, I'll get the rp-21.

Thanks for all your help,
Nadav.

Within your budget an open headphone like the Grado will sound better than a closed headphone like the Denon. It's that simple. If sound leakage is a concern you need a closed can. Pick your poison.

if you are going for closed cans try out shure srh440, and audio technica stuff, they are pretty good and versatile
