Potential dumb iPod question.

I want to have my iPod modded. I also want to rerecord everything on it using Apple lossless. My question is: and I use a external HDD as the default location for iTunes vs. my desktop. And if yes, what do I do to set it up to do such?

Much thanks for any info.

Is it just me who struggle to understand what you ask for?

Holy **** I'll try to guess what you mean! Here goes: yes, you can have your itunes music on an external HDD. How? Well, I don't have mine on external HDD but I guess you just rip all your stuff to ALAC, place it in the HDD and point Itunes to it. Maybe more experienced external HDD users will help.

I'd prefer Apple Lossless.

Help didn't happen....

Let me rephrase:

I want iTunes for a new Classic to be non-computer specific, but instead on a portable HDD. Normally your stuck with your iTunes on one computer, but I want it on a HDD so if my computer crashed, I'd still have all my music and not have to import 400+ cd's all over again.

I know I could record all my music to a HDD as MP3's and transfer them to iTunes in the case of a computer failure, but I don't want MP3s, I want Apple Lossless.

Is that more understandable???
