Amplifier picks up radio station! Help!

Does anyone else have this problem? My Heed Canamp keeps picking up the local radio station. I can hear it if i don't play any music, there's a very faint signal but i can definitely tell that it's the radio station signal. It's actually quite annoying. Anyone have experience with this? Thanks...

What source do you have connected to the amp? Does this noise appear if you have nothing plugged into the amp?

Reason I ask is that this type of noise is usually introduced at the input side of an amp. Not knowing this particular design, it could also be do to an improperly grounded input signal.

it's hooked up to a mhdt havana. i unplugged the cables from the havana to the amp and it's still there. i unplug my headphones from the amp and it's gone (of course). so basically if i connect my headphones to the amp and turn the amp on, i get a radio.

How long have you owned the amp? Has it always done this? Do you get any change in sound when you touch any metal part of the amp case, or volume knob (is the knob metal?)

If it has done this since you owned it then it may be defective.

If you have not owned it for very long I would contact the retailer. If they are a decent shop they should handle this just fine.

It most certainly should not pickup stray radio interference.

is there a way to fix grounding issues?

Yep, connect the signal ground to the chassis.

so you're saying that the grounding wire is loose?

Do you live next to an AM radio tower? We made that mistake once. Faint country music and political propaganda could be heard from nearly every speaker in the house (TVs, laptops, iPods...).

Yes, it's a shielding problem. Minimize cable lengths and implement chassis grounding.

Well this could be an issue not knowing how the ground is done in this amp. Does it use a virtual ground? I would not attempt this without knowing more details about the amp.

What about that ERS paper? I heard that stuffs good.

Heed CanAmp - unregulated split supply off 2x9V toroidal transformer; you can attach ground to chassis safely. The only reason where you could not is off an amp that ties V- to chassis and that's quite rare among solid-state amps, especially those with internal PSU.
