iMOD vs. LOD

What are the advantages of using an imod over a LOD?

With LOD, signal still goes over amp and caps inside of ipod, but with imod, you get pure analog signal.

The mod is made in the iPod but then you need a special iMod LOD that has capacitors which are now bypassed in the iPod. A regular LOD without these caps will NOT work on an iModded iPod. Take a look at the Red Wine Audio and ALO websites for more insight.

Unless you have a very early Imod which converted the headphone out into a line out, which of course negated using the hp out as a hp out. I believe Vinnie switched over to using the LOD connection due to the limited interior space of the newer generation Ipods.(Too many crybabies have to have their thin players because an extra 1/4 " of necessary pocket(or whatever) space (even for better internal components) is an extreme burden.)

i dig- but there are still advantages of going LOD<portable amp rather than just straight out of the output<portable amp?

Yeah lod is def better then headphone out to a amp if possible although it still goes through some unnecessary/bad parts it prevents double amping which is not a great idea.
