I'm thinking about buying 64gb Ipod touch 3rd revision...


My other devices... Headroom Total Bithead and AKG k271.

Why not use ALAC instead?

That depends on the quality of the portable CD player, in specific its DAC.
The digital audio data should be identical, but that does not say the analog audio out is identical...

Dont use WAV if you dont have to, and you dont.

A bit off-topic question. Does it make any difference if I transcode from Fast or High compression FLAC to ALAC? Will the ALAC in the end be the same size? I'm using DBPoweramp if that's of any relevance.

Yes, the resulting ALAC file will be the same size regardless of compression setting in the source FLAC file.
