why can't rockboxed ipod can't handle *.APE ?

Hello all!

Curious, my rockboxed ipod 4g can't play ape files without a lot of skipping. All encoded forms of APE, not just the heavily encoded ones.

I can't find anything elsewhere on the net about this. Has anyone else experienced this? Are there some crazy settings that would help this? Some sort of fragmenting issue?

thanks!

Monkey's Audio is CPU intensive on decoding, and some compression modes do not play back in realtime on portable players.

Converting them to flac will help.

That's why I use flac. Even the simplest of players (even the sansa clip) can play it.

my S9 and D2 always handled APE decently,
well, the D2 interface slowed to a crawl, but still pleyd RT,

The D2 and S9 are newer players of course and have more powerful CPUs. I wouldn't doubt that they are better at APE.
