Led Zep and Pink Floyd recommendations please

Like many people I'm sure, I have only one album from each of these artists, Dark Side of the Moon for Pink Floyd (actually an iTunes download, which I plan on replacing with a decent CD version at some point) and IV for Led Zep. So, what albums would people recommend from these artists to build my collection a bit?

Thanks .

Pink Floyd: Wish You Were Here, Animals, Meddle, Atom Heart Mother, Obscured by Clouds... In that order.

Pink Floyd -> Wish You Were Here, The Division Bell, Pulse, The Wall.
I prefer them in that order, but really any order would work.

These two bands have a place in my hart. I am more into Zep but have always told myself I would concentrate on the complete Floyd works when I was older. I feel both band are magic and you can do no wrong with any except maybe CODA and In Threw The Out Door on the Zep side. I would look for both bands box sets used. Zep has one from the early 90s that has everything. The reason I say this is Zep seems to be very personal to people. You will never find a group of Head-Fi people to agree on any best of on the Zep side. This is due to each album being a self reinvention by the band. Also each person has their own history in relation to the band. One and four are my favorite. We do not have a clue which one you will like in the end.

Floyd has a really nice box set from ages ago. This is the one I own. There is a new one out that is more complete. DSOTM is my favorite with WYWH second. Meddle seems like an ep to me. Meddle is also one I have to give more time to. Animals was such a hit in the 70s along with The Wall. Again with both Animals and The Wall you have a sentimentality which permeates the masses. These two albums are really headphone epics and should not be missed. Just find both box sets used and play them for 365 days straight. They are that good.

I have the second box set, and yes, the albums are all the things that Redcarmoose says.

That is a good question. Maybe someone around here will know? There is a new Zep Box set out now. As far as I know that is only number two on the box sets. The first Zep box set came out in the early 90s and that was all you could ever buy forever. They were the first remasters and just like Floyd did at first, the only way you could get a remaster was buy the whole box set. It was $100.00 or so. I have not read if it is the same remasters now for the new box set or what. The Song Remains The Same movie soundtrack was never remastered until just a year or so ago. I really do not like cds or remasters for that matter. The best thing would be have the original LPs. That is a difficult option, so just to have both Led Zep and Floyd in two boxes is nothing short of a gift from God.

The Mothership box set is over compressed. I wouldn't listen to them. See if you can find some copies of the remasters done in 90/91 I think it is. Originals and not reissues if you can.

I can't stress enough, DO NOT waste your money on The Mothership set.

Some say Floyd was not the same without Waters but IMO A Momentary Lapse Of Reason should be considered.

Were not really interested here in enlarged compilations even though I guess Mothership could be a box set. To me you have to get the original cds because there is a perfect song sequence that every Zep album has. It is the whole sum is greater than the parts thing going on. It is wrong to even try and put together a greatest hits pack. The way each album starts out. the vibe. To me they should never add extra fill to the cds as it dilutes everything. Sometimes just how an album ends is really important for effect. The silence after the last song is powerful. Why waist it with some second rate live song or whatever.

The album sequence is something that the Mp3 generation will never learn about. Mp3 players have song after song, sometimes in the wrong order, plus they never stop which destroys the whole vibe when hearing 70s music. If it was your first time to here Zep and the albums were running together in some Mp3 player, you may miss the point of the music.

As I use it as my avatar, I'll go ahead and say Piper at the Gates of Dawn.

My favorite Pink Floyd song is 'See Emily Play', and you can find this on Relics or I'm sure it's available as a single on iTunes.

You can't go wrong with "The Complete Studio Recordings"

Led Zeppelin Complete Studio Recordings CD

The easiest answer would just be all of the above.

Am I the only one who likes "The Wall" the best for PF?
