Amp for Denon AH-D7000? - Page 2

If you want best bang for buck, I'd check out HiFiman's EF-5 for $399. Definitely hangs with the big boys from what I've read. I'm getting one this week which I'll incidentally be comparing with the Audio-GD Phoenix.

.

I've read that the Denon drivers and tubes aren't quite happy playing together.

How about the Ray Samuels XP-7. It's a big above your budget market... but I hear it is awesome. This is the route I will most likely be taking.

I definitely preferred the Phoenix over the EF-5. I have no desire to upgrade my amp now, save for doing a re-wire job of the inputs & outputs.

I am currently looking at the Grace M902 or the Benchmark DAC1. Can anyone comment on these?

My $700 HiFiMAN-HM801 portable DAP outperformed the Grace M902.

I've been trying to get the Audio GD Pheonix but I don't really wanna buy it from their website, maybe somebody can give me a good site where they sell them?

Ive had D5000's for a little over 6 months and have tried them with:

Little Dot MKIII: Really was disappointed with the combo. OTL amps and Denon's a no go

2009 Zero: At the same time I had the MKIII, I also had a Zero - noticeable improvement

Little Dot 1+: I was satisfied with this amp and the Denon's for a while. Great combo, very detailed and good bass

iBasso D4: I only powered the Denons with the D4 when I sold my 1+ and was waiting for the GCHA to come in. I didnt hate the combo but didnt care for it too much either.

PS Audio GCHA: I was literally taken aback in a good way - crisp details, incredible staging and the bass hits harder but is more controlled.

Everything mentioned above is within your budget. Make sure you save some money for a DAC as well or divide up your $600 budget between an amp and a dac

My MAD Ear+HD tube amp and my D7000s is truly an amazing match. Heck, they even sound good with my Nuforce uDac, but nowhere near as nice as my tube amp. The MAD Ear+HD never ceases to amaze me. It is the best amp I've ever heard with my RS1i's (the initial reason I bought it), great with the D7000s (both low impedance cans), but equally inspiring with my HD650s (now sold), HD800s, beyer T1s, and beyer DT770/600s.

The range of impedances on these cans go from 25 - 600 ohms and this tube amp sound incredible with all of them . The only cans I did not like with it were my K701s (now sold).
