Is the Motorola Droid a good choice?

I was wondering if the Droid was a decent music player. I don't need the best of the best or anything, but I would like it if the music played fairly well. Have any of you tried out the Droid yet? If so, what do you think about it. I may get this phone tomorrow or may not, depending on the responses... if any.

Thanks for visiting.

I've been using the Droid and loving it since it was released on Nov 6. For me, it almost replaced my laptop for casual internet use. I love that I can quickly switch between my applications as in a real OS. I also love that I can download whatever apps form wherever I like. (Again, more like a real computer, and not some totally locked down environment with a ridiculous process for getting apps from developers to users.) This is my first smartphone because it's the first one I've wanted.

It is a fine music player if the stock 16G or other microSD card is sufficient. The default player is a bit weak, but there are some good replacements in the market. I found one I like called MixZing (Lite version).

While the in-built speaker puts out great sound compared to competing phones, my first impressions are that the sound from the headphone output is a bit weak. I think my iAudio 7 can do better. So it wouldn't me by first choice for listening to tunes on the go... but could be good enough. If you could somehow use an amp conveniently, I thought it helped a lot (while stationary).

I can't believe I just typed that all out from my Droid hw keyboard.

I'm using the Droid for most of my email and internet browsing as well (l need to update my sig) and it's great. The media player is good, but I agree the volume is quite weak.

Still I love this phone and it's a keeper (I typed this message on my Droid as well).

Sorry, double post.

I was actually suggesting that the headphone out SQ was weak. It didn't seem to really convince me until I ran it through my Shadow. Volume is just fine through both the built-in speaker and the headphone output.

For on the go, I am fine with decent SQ. I love the "mini pc" concept of all these smartphones nowadays. Thanks for the comments guys!

The HP out is quite weak (volume wise), as I can't use IEM's myself (ear issues unfortunately,...), but it's clean and clear w/no distortion. I mean, the Droid is no iPhone, but for a portable computer in my pocket it's fantastic. It's really doubling as a netbook replacement for me - quite a good 1 at that.

Wow, seeing your impressions on the Droid makes me want to buy one for myself! I myself am a Motorola fan and was absolutely amazed at the ROKR E8 as a dedicated music player. Albeit a bit clunky on the interface, its sound output is on par or even better than my previous iPod Touch. I was able to Rockbox it too as it uses the Linux kernel and thus can play FLAC files!

BTW, what network is the Droid on?

Had this phone, returned it.

-gets warm, even hot during light browsing
-touch screen can be unresponsive at times
-numerous issues w/ scrolling in the browser (sometimes it stops registering my flick, sometimes it autoscrolls)
-wifi disconnecting (multiple waps)
-physical keyboard is garbage
-low signal strength relative to other VZW phones (BB Storm, Tour, Razr V3C)
-screen looks pink under polarized lenses
-browser and os in general feel half baked
-games are terrible
-headphones kept falling out of the jack, so I gave up on this (music app is trash anyway)

This is through 4 of them and there's plenty of info on these issues around. A couple friends have drank the coolaid though and seem happy. Me, I won't settle for this crap.

^ Wow, so the Droid's getting mixed reviews from people here. Well, I would try one and see to it if it floats my boat. If not, I'll go with the CLIQ or the Zine ZN5.

Dont know as a music player and its sq but android is the future...FACT
post #13 of 39
Does this look like the future to you?

DROID keyboard lag, tap to autoscroll problem, and gmail app quirks
Droid wild scrolling issue when tapping the screen

Cause I was kind of hoping to at least get browsing done right, ya know?

IMO, it looks like it was designed for the military. I can't imagine carrying around something this ugly///Yes>>Styling does matter, It reminds me of a miniature brick (Looks & Weight).

I was so gonna purchase this when it came out, but first hand impression's are the foundation for any relationship (human or material) if it doesn't have the "WOW" factor initially,,,Well,,, it only goes down hill from there and I was immediately turned OFF!

Just got a cellphone for the first time since I moved into a cave in 2003. I looked at the android phones very seriously, but concluded that they're too bleeding edge to be all that. Probably in 6 months there will be a lot more options and prices will drop.
