Word. This is why I use mine on T-Mobile. $5 data (albeit EDGE, but I only use it for Maps/Email and WiFi's readily available whenever I need to browse) and cheap plans made the 3GS the most powerful yet reasonably economical convergence option for me.

I love mine. It gives my 4G iMod a fair run for it's money into both my pico and my dynalo.

heh. I'd be happy to let you try out the iPhone 3GS with whichever phones you have, but I won't be in Perth for another couple of months. That being said, there was a thread where people have given the normal hp out from the iPhone 3GS the thumbs up compared to the Cowon for example and I think its pretty decent as well.

I'd say get a separate DAP and pick your phone/plan for what fills those needs. I like the ability to upgrade the memory as 32GB isn't a ton if you use FLAC or WAV files (I use all WAV files for simplicity). The next generation of ITouch may be more what I'd look for.
Australia's networks are a fair bit better than AT&T's, and you can get it from multiple carriers, so it really won't be a problem.

yeah the network stuff is all fine over here, so that's not a problem, and it comes fairly cheaply.

i ended up signing up for one! should be getting it on tuesday
thanks heaps for all your help everyone!

now to get a more portable pair of headphones for it... ad700s are a bit large >__<

awesome! :P the sound quality is very good, almost like the noise is reduced from the old iPhone 3G very clear notes. The bass quantity is there too, a good balance thou. on my Triple Fi 10 + null audio cable and monster turbine (this for some songs i felt that i am listening to it on my Pro 900 through the 3Move Amp)

Even then, every time you attach the LOD you'll get a prompt telling you that the accessory isn't compatible and asking you whether or not you want to switch to Airplane mode (you don't have to; the line-out will still work if it's a 2nd-gen touch-compatible one). Very few LODs bypass this prompt, and it's a minor nuisance that occurs only when you attach the LOD.

I did not find the line-out -> Meier Corda XXS to be a significant improvement over the 3GS's headphone-out.
By the way, the reason for the different pin configuration is due to the iPod touch 2nd gen, 3rd gen and iPhones all have speakers, except for iPod touch 1st gen.
You wouldn't want music to be playing through your speakers AND passing audio signal to your lod, to your amp and to your iem simultaneously right ?

Nice piece of info! Thanks.

Coincidence, I just saw on another website that there will be an app that makes your iPhone/Touch look like a iPod Classic. I think it will be $1.99 for the app.

On a separate note, can anyone confirm if the 3G Touch has the same SQ as the 3GS?

Thanks.

i don't really know much about lod's in general D;
Dont know much either, but my Qable LOD for iPhone 2G works fine with my 3GS

Sorry to bump up this old thread, but is the iPhone 3G's headphone out quality identical to the 3GS's?

Thanks!

The general concensus here is that the 3gs is better.

But I have owned both and personally think they are pretty similar. Really should not be past tense; I have the 3gs and a family member now has the 3g.
Had both, not at the exact same time though. Very similar.

Actually, there's one very big difference between my 3GS and the 3G I used to have -- volume dynamic range. The 3G never went to truly silent if you turned it all the way down; my 3GS does. This is important if you have sensitive phones and like to be able to turn the volume down to very quiet for some reason -- my 3G really never got all that quiet. I also feel like the 3GS has a much cleaner sound than the 3G did.

i see, however my way of changing songs will just never work on a touch screen as I rely on my finger finding the scroll wheel/button in my pocket =)
