BBC News - Humans 'hear' through their skin

I wonder how much of a fundamental drawback this is to headphones.

It is known that frequency travel to one ear to another only by the skin vibration when using headphone although its more limited to high frequency.

I wish headphones could give the same bass punch as speakers

With my loudspeaker system, the bass impacts my legs, torso, etc. With headphones, it's limited to my ears. What's more, the cushions dampen vibrations that could be more directly working their way through my lobes. It's a classic case of comfort versus quality of sound.
