..and deactivated my account within 5 minutes.

After seeing the friends suggestions on there I realized I don't want to reconnect with any these people.

Heh, exactly how it went for me.

I like it because it allows me to easily and cheaply connect with people living far away. It wouldn't be at all economical for me to regularly try to call people across Canada. It allows you to share videos and pictures, send private and public messages, chat, have large discussions, facilitates group interaction when planning events and such, and it of course has fun little games like wordtwist!

I don't really understand either. I can see that it's helpful for keeping in touch with people, but I honestly can't comprehend how people sit at Facebook for hours on end.

Twitter, I have yet to understand. Facebook, I like for being able to keep track of those people who I want to keep track of and stay in touch with. I cannot imagine spending hours on end with Facebook though. 2-3 10 minute sessions a day is more than I can handle in the first place.

I just leave it run in the background when I'm online. I can be on it for hours only if I'm using the facebook chat, discussing something, or playing wordtwist.

I've spent more time on Head-Fi then I have on FB. There's really nothing to do on it

Facebook is awesome for students (myself) and especially when my brother is living 2000km away. Allows me to keep up to date with him and my friends in an interesting environment.

Couldn't care less about twitter though, never used it.

i don't get it neither. to me, facebook it's helpful for keeping in touch with people who you don't know very well. but why would i want to know those people who i don't know very well? plus, i don't want people who i don't know/like to know me at all.

You can choose who you add to your friends list. So technically, you never have to have anyone on your friends list who you don't know very well. You can also set your account to private so only people who are on your friends list can see what your regular updates are.

Well done!
I see how Facebook can be helpful, but also see quite some cons.

I have managed to stay clear all these years myself, and no intend to go there either..

There is this idiot at my office who comes in at night and multiple times on the weekends to use facebook, he doesn't have a computer or internet at home. A couple weeks ago the cleaning lady came in at night and got the crap scared out of her by this guy sitting in front of his computer in the dark.. Every time my boss catches him he says he had to come in because he forgot something at the office. Another co-worker lets me know when he's been in because of this guy's MafiaWars updates he gets on facebook. Yesterday everyone in the office was told we could leave early, when it came time to go I asked this guy if he was leaving cause he was still sitting with his computer on.. he says: "No, I'm chatting with an old friend on Facebook and I would feel bad if I told her I had to leave." Ummmm OK.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention in the past this guy has also been caught looking at pron so who knows what else hes doing sitting in there by himself at night in the dark.
