MS1/MS1i + bowls, or SR80i + bowls???

Hi guys, this question probably have been posted quite a lot, but its difficult to find exactly.

I'm thinking of getting a set of new headphones, I'm torn between the MS1, MS1i and the SR80i (I can't seem to find the old SR80 anymore).

From what I know, none of the three come with bowls, so which ever one I get, I am planning to buy bowls for them. So my question is, with bowls on them, which set should I get for mainly rock and classical music.

Also, I was wondering where is it cheapest to buy bowls.

Thanks so much guys!

Go for the MS1i's. They are the drivers from the SR125, I think.

And the cheapest place that I know of is Todd The Vinyl Junkie. They are $20.00.

Yeap. I've both the MS1i's and the SR80i's and the MS1i's are better.

From what I've read on these fine pages there is nothing between the MS1 and the MS1i (sound wise) and it's just a question of which you think look better.

If I'm not mistaken the i's have the beveled/ raised edges around the face of the cups of the Grado i range, where as the none i's have the flat cups.

Flat (none i)

Beveled (i)

Notice that the text is in a different place

But there's no visual difference between MS1/MS1i?

o, so they the ms1 and ms1i sound about the same? thanks, although I still don't quite get the difference in their appearance.

But you guys are for getting the bowls for them right?

Sorry, what I'm saying is there is - the MS1i's look like the new Grado i range, while regular MS1's look like the old range - so they do look different (the MS1i's have the beveled edges where as the MS1 have the flat edges)

I've not explained this very well...

I've not gone for bowls as they are far too expensive to get imported into the UK form the US ($45 for delivery - don't think so!) so I went for reversed HD414 pads

Very nice! This should be a keeper for those "MS1 vs MS1i" threads.

$45? Well, I'm proud to be an american. HD414's FWIR are still nice. Quarter mod them.

As to the OP, the MS1 (no "i") is the way to go. MS1i IMO is like $10 out the window. As said earlier, the MS1 follows the SR60 cup design; MS1i=SR80 cup design.

The MS1 uses SR125 drivers. MS1i uses the SR125i drivers, but is NOT using the new conductor cable on the "i" models.

No sound difference whatsoever.

Here's a bit more accurate comparison, the difference in size is a bit more bigger. The MS1i looks far better in my opinion, the MS1 (non-i) just stays flat. Quicky in paint:

What are the sound differences between 80 and Ms1..I'm guessing the Ms1 is more neutral, because the 80s are really bright.

Go for the MS1/MS1i - I'm currently modding my MS1 to a MS1000
