"Intense" Albums

I'm not necessarily talking about heavy metal, but I would like to know what albums you consider intense. For any reason. Maybe it's the type of album that draws you in and creates an amazing atmosphere, or maybe the lyrics are moving, maybe it's slow but it evokes a lot of emotion, etc. For me I would have to say The Fragile by Nine Inch Nails, it does all three for me. Every single song feels very dramatic and emotive. It's not a casual listening experience, but just the opposite.

So what albums do you consider "intense" and why?

The Angelic Process - Weighing Souls With Sand

Amazing release which is both hypnotic and crushing. Pity the K.Angylus had to die so tragically.

Joy Division - Closer.

Altar of Plagues - White Tomb

Fits all three descriptions.

When I first saw the topic title, Broken was the first that popped into mind. That EP was such a layered assault of nihilism. It just left you bludgeoned. Any NIN album from that era is a dramatic experience.

Two of The Decemberists' most recent albums can be pretty intense for me (The Crane Wife, The Hazards of Love), but be warned this is an emotional punch vs. the visceral intensity of, say, Broken by NIN. They are much softer in general and can tend toward folky-sounding music, and may or may not be your cup of tea but figured I'd throw it out there. I'm also a huge fan of NIN though, for some perspective.

As far as emotional intensity is concerned, both of Damien Rice's excellent albums are also very emotionally intense.
