Music like the Sounds

Thread Starter
So I've completely fallen in love with the band the Sounds ( YouTube - The Sounds - Queen Of Apology ). This is nowhere near my usual taste (think prodigy, tool, nin, rjd2, infected mushroom, massive attack etc.) so I'm finding it rather difficult to find similar music. Anyone else loving them? (especially like their "dying to say this to you" album) Anyone know similar music?

Thanks a lot in advance.

edit: I mean the rather new band "the Sounds" from sweden.

Sounds very 80s, like bad Siouxsie and the Banshees or something.

>> edit:

here, see how it's really done:

Perhaps I shouldve mentioned that I mean the rather new swedish band, not the old sounds

That's what I'm saying: it doesn't really sound too "new."

I guess Siouxsie is the wrong comparison though, on second listen. It sounds familiar, but I can't place the sound. Kind of reminds me of that teen star, come to think of it... what's her name? I think she's canadian.... Avril Lavigne? Something like that.

oh ok, well... that's a bit scary to be honest I hate avril Lavigne. I think what I'm looking for is general good mooded rocking.

Ttvetjanu, I'm right there with you concerning The Sounds. It's just so damn catchy.

You should check out Yeah Yeah Yeahs, also swedish. [New York]

+ YouTube Video

You know, neither The Strokes nor The Libertines are too far removed from this sound.
And then you've got Franz Ferdinand and Arctic Monkeys, but could maybe be moving in the wrong direction.

More 80's-ish synth-power-pop?

Should give you something to go on.

You could try out The Faint, or if you looking for more female vocals, Shiny Toy Guns and Mates of State

Yeah, like the part where she says "never stops, never stops," and just the vocals in general sound like something from one of those teen pop stars. I don't listen to that music a lot so I really can't place it exactly. But just listening now to a couple of Avril Lavigne songs for comparison, from a completely objective standpoint, I'd have to say the Avril songs might even be better. Just because something has a "modern" sounding guitar doesn't mean it's a good song. That organ "deglissando" thing is pretty cheesy, for example.

Cool dude, awesome opinion. Oh, by the way, there's a rule against thread crapping here. Thanks.

The Sounds are awesome, good to exercise to. I can't think of anything too similar, but for some reason I kind of associate them with another pop band I really like, The Caesars. Love for the Streets is a very listenable album, and the ladies love it, and music that's worth points is worth a lot.

Well, he asked. I can't really help it if you don't like the answer.

If only the music was as good as this cover

It's really hard to give accurate recommendations, but FWIW try these:

Chromatics - IV: Night Drive

I think the Glitch hit on a couple of good 'uns, although the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are New Yorkers, not Swedish. That was probably a typo. I'll add:

You Say Party! We Say Die!

And I too love The Sounds, even thought Crossing the Rubicon was good, although the press was lukewarm at best.

Whatever -- you basically just talked about how bad of a band they were.
