Final checklist for DIY cart, any comments?

Ok, the DIY madness has begun..

Thanks to cobaltmute I got my head out of the sand and found some good online shops.

After reading on the forum and checking prices, I narrowed it down to:

Cable:
- MOGAMI 2893 (4 con, diameter 6mm) 50ft for 60$ (Japanese shop).
- Belden 1804 (4 con. 2.92 mm, a little more expensive than the others, worth it?)
- Belden 9534

Hose:
Non-Fray Expandable Braided Sleeving We like different colours, nice-price as well.
Ebay is a much better choise...

Plugs:
Neutrik (These cost x3 here in Japan T_T'')

Solder Tin:
CARDAS Quad Eutectic Silver

Heat shrink:
Nice colourful package (I don't understand the 1/16, 1/8 etc measurement (never mind I found THIS useful chart), what size will stick on a 3 or 6mm when heated? Also, should I consider getting a larger diameter for heat shrink Y-split?)

Comments will be much appreciated!

Thanks! Newbie question; what is the name for stereo cable (as in 2 channels in one cable)?
I can't seem to find any distinct name for mono/stereo cables hence making it a pain in the ***** looking for the right cable..
The reason you can find it is that it may be called different things

Stereo cable requires two conductors (at minimum). People use different things to accomplish this - 4 wire microphone cable, coax cable, shielded twisted pair, etc. So long as it has enough conductors, people will use it. They will also braid single wires together to get what they want.

Ok, what do you think about this cable? Will it go well with the Neutrik plug?
As in; is there enough space between the cable and the plug's cap so that a layer or two of tech flex (coating) will fit?

I'm european so thinking outside the metric system is hard..!

Anyone who has shopped at mouser before; can you help me find some black heat shrink to go with the cable I found? If possible without any writing on it.

Also, what goes well as a Y-split? Anywhere I can find some sort of Y-split housing/case, instead of just using heat shrink to shape a Y?

What is the name of the soldering iron brand that you all love so much?

Thanks a lot for the replies guys, I just got to get over this bump in the road and I'll be fine on my own, I hope!

Try the Search function, it has a lot of the answers you're looking for and doing so will help you learn more.

Belden makes good wire; you'd have to check the datasheets for both the wire and the connector to see about sizes and how much wiggle room you have.

There are a couple companies that sell splitters (the names of both allude me right now but they're in the stickied cable construction thread).

I don't think there's a single iron that's favored here, but the one that is most predominantly used (or at least talked about) is the Hakko 936 or any of it's clones.

The spools are some 50$ over here (100gram) so again I might be cheaper to get it from ebay..

Between Tri or Quad Cardas the obvious choice is?
Tri would be lead free quad is with lead so Id go with the quad...

Cardas is nice but any eutectic blend will work. 63/37 is the standard eutectic. Flows great and is no more expensive than 60/40.

The specification for the Neutrik plug caught my eye:
Quote:
Mechanical
Cable O.D.≤ 4 mm
Does it mean that any cable over 4mm thick will not even fit? Such as Belden 9534? (4.67mm)

Regarding Y-split, other than the ViaBlue and this Hicon (German), are there any "out-of-the-box" Y-splitters that one can buy? Or should I just go for heatshrink..?

Anyone? I need to know if the Neutrik plugs will fit with the Belden 9534 cable (4.67mm), if not I have to order Belden 1804.

Also ordered a glue gun, multimeter and some solder accessories!! Can't wait to get started.
