Thats exactly what I thought. A passive volume control is at zero gain at full volume. Its just like a volume attenuator (like you get with many headphones on their cables), not an active preamp volume control.

Maybe Larry didn't set his to full volume so that he could get matching outputs with other dacs he was comparing with like the pico. After all, at full volume the udac will sound louder than most other usb powered dacs because of its 2 volt output.

I wish we had some insight into the dac... I'm trying to decide between the uDAC and the Styleaudio Emerald or ibasso D2+ and cannot figure out if, for half the price, the uDAC is really gonna be up there with the other two (particularly the Emerald with its upsampling dac). Anyone have any insight?

Is the price too good to be true or just too good?!
