I think Triple.fi is definitely top-tier. It has great treble and bass. It also has very good mids - they are just a bit overpowered by the bass.

Overall, the true top-tiers I've heard so far, however, are SE530, UM3X, and e-Q7 and I also have a feeling that RE252 belongs to the list. By true top tier I mean IEMs that are balanced/reasonably accurate and do not really lack in any parts of the frequency spectrum. IE8, Triple.fi and Westone 3 are still top-tier, but they are obviously colored - IE8 has big bass emphasis, while Triple.fi and Westone 3 have a somewhat V-shaped response IMO.

I just pulled the trigger on eBay after an offer/counter; the seller seems good, and advertises a 1-year warranty.

These will definitely be the best, most "top-tier" IEMs I have heard to date, can't wait to give a listen.

Getting red e-Q7 is courageous? Then did I do something unheard of by getting a pair of red e-Q7? I am thinking of changing it to black though.

Me too! Right now my favorite IEMs are my RE1s, but the e-Q7s will have to go up against a Tf11 someday in the near future... I will end up getting rid of the rest.

Hi guys. As the Ortofon are available here in Australia I'd be interested to know your opinion on their trebles versus IE8 and CK10. I found the trebles on the CK10 fenomenal but ultimately the "thin" bass made me sell them. I then tried the IE8 and even if the overall sound is more full bodied than the CK10 the trebles are not crisp enough for my taste. So I guess that I'm trying to find the best of both worlds. Could the Ortofon be the answer? Thank you for your thoughts.

The e-Q7 certainly have good, crisp, sparkly treble. It's more 'tame' than the CK10's treble, but definitely livelier than the IE8's.

The ortofon treble is slightly recessed, but gently sparkly--it's a midcentric iem. If you want good treble energy, the ortofons won't suit your taste. The bass simply lacks the moving-air quality that gives a high-end dynamic driver iem it's real bass thump. The ortofon bass sounds okay for an armature iem, though, well detailed and controlled. It's a beautiful iem for what it is (designed for the bass and treble to be unobtrusive and the mids to be the most important), but not for everyone.
 

 

I guess I'd like a bit more treble than the IE8 (it'd be OK not to reach the extension of the CK 10) but a bit more bass than what the CK10 can offer. Any suggestion?
 

It would be great if you could possibly audition e-Q7 at Wicked Digital but I guess you are not near Sydney...

The e-Q7 does have more treble presence than the IE8 and slightly more bass impact than the CK10 so it should suit your needs.
