Dont use techflex, it is scratchy and echoes into the headphones. Use multifilament or cotton.

am i suppose to strip off the outer insulator of the cable then put the nylon sleeve over it?

nah, i work hard and have been saving alot since i dont get out much i dont spend much either. Recently i decided to empty my savings and put it to better use. I see it formally as a enjoyable hobby, and secondly as a investment. This beats out whatever the interest rate is now at the local bank.

PS I am a little bit strained on "investment capital" so "sorry for your wallet" is starting to kick in big time

No, don't strip the insulation. Sleeving is really just for looks and MAYBE some more durability, but most mic cables, especially if you went with the Mogami is pretty tough stuff, plus it comes in multiple colors so you can coordinate your gear.

Quick question - are your headphones single or dual entry? My suggestions below are for dual entry, but if you are single entry, even easier because you are dealing with at single cable up to the cup.

If you go with the 2893 (highly recommended), 3/16" nylon multifilament (highly recommended and can be gotten very nicely priced from furryletters on ebay) fits perfectly and looks very nice. You can either heatshrink the twisted pairs going to the cups (can be stiff if you use 3 to 1 or higher) or get some 1/8" for the twisted pairs.

Here is what it looks like when I used the Mogami 2893 for a recable:

You could go naked cable to the y split and then 1/8" multifilament to the cups so you don't buy two sizes of multifilament. If you are single entry, then the mogami covered with the 3/16th will look pretty money from plug to cup. Don't use techflex pet stuff or it will sound awful everytime you rub against something. I made that mistake on my first recable. I go naked braid or multifilament on everything now.

Well im re-cabling the Floats first they are single entry. I have ordered the multifiliment 3/16 with the mogami 2893. My concerns is that with the sleeving around the cable it is too thick to enter the cups. Should i just heat-shrink the end of the nylon to the cable right before I have the cable enter into the cup. Also should i have the sleeve and cable heat-shrink at the plug end? or should the plugs strain relief clamping down on the whole thing work?

Also i am planning to re-cable my es7 later on with the same material. Again i am concerned about what to do if i cannot fit the cable alone, or cable+nylon into the cups. I am also wondering if using cable pants as a y split would be effective and how would i use the exactly to make a y split ( like do i just stuff the cable pants 3 or do i have to add something else to keep the nylon and insulator from sliding out of the cable pants. I know that heat-shrink would work and thats why i ordered some, but i would like to keep it as clean as possible and i dont personally find heatshrink attractive, however it is functional.

Just finished my first recable!! but got some problems, the right side sound funny like its kinda muted. Anyone got a solution to this or possibly whats causing this? The Floats are single entry to the leftside and share a common ground (original wiring). With the new cable i just simply had one separate ground going to each side, can this be the issue? or maybe there is a problem with my connections to the driver, or i got mixed up when soldering the jack on?

It might be something within the plug. Your separate ground conductors should be fine.

To check, play something that only has left side sound, and listen to the tone. If it appears in both channel, you shorted something. And repeat for right side.

If you have a multimeter, resistance between left and right should be twice the impedance of the phones. One channel and ground should be 1x the impedance.

If i did shorted something is that going to leave permanent damage to the drivers?

It shouldn't do any damage. It'll just sound weird.

For amplifiers, it may be another thing. Some amps don't like it, and some can tolerate it.
