Everyone here seems to be a huge fan of the RE0. And at $79 down from $200, I would wager it may be the best bang for your buck.

I think I'll wait for ClieOS' Hippo VB review. If after that the RE0 still wins, it's a done deal.

You should consider the FXC50. Less detail than the abovementionned IEMs, and slightly recessed midrange, but the bass is impressive as are the highs. A tad bright in these areas but I'm not sure it would bother you. Available at Futureshop.

I'm thinking of getting the RE0, and I mostly listen to hip-hop, triphop(downtempo electronica with vocals), and some heavy metal. Do you think that's a good choice?

I am most worried about two things:

1, Is the RE0 durable? As in, I don't want to buy a new pair of headphones in a year...(when the warranty is up)

2, Most of my music is low bitrate mp3s (~198kbs, some 128kbs, some 320kbs), will the lower quality ones negate the value of the RE0's sound? (I will be playing mostly through an iPod nano, or a laptop)

I haven't seen anything about the durability of the RE0 (especially with the design changes), but I read that the RE0's are hard on low bitrate music, but just how hard?

I'm coming from thinking that the stock iPod earbuds give out pretty good quality sound...

Not nearly enough good reviews... thanks for the idea though.

updated first post again...

Well this thread just convinced me to buy RE0s. Not for myself though ... nice price for a Christmas gift for my mother - she flies fairly frequently so these should be good
