Getting the best out of my new sound card

Just to start off I'm new as a member on head-fi, but I've been a long time follower/reader in the forums.

I have just placed an order on a HT Omaga Claro Halo XT. I would like to hear from some of you what you would would recommend for getting the best out of the card. Excluding upgrading the Ophamps for now. What I would like to focus on more right now is what software/plug-ins would be good to be running my music through.

Currently I'm using Foobar to run my music, but haven't added any plug-ins. I've been trying to get ASIO, but haven't been able to get it to work properly. I've been surviving using an old Creative SB live card, so the new Claro Halo will be a very welcome upgrade . I'd like to hear any of your thoughts/recommendations on what I could do to further improve my music playback.

Thanks
Josh

I think most people will say that you want as little processing as possible, unless you happen to want something special like crossfeed (which isn't for everyone).

Are you going to be using digital (SPDIF) or analog out? I think that's the first question that needs to be answered. You mentioned upgrading the opamps, but if you're using SPDIF that's irrelevant. Also, what OS are you using?

Hey Sir Drex,

I would be using the Analog out, mostly to a 2.1 speaker system. And I'm running Windows XP right now. Looking to try out Windows 7 soon hopefully. I see what your saying about getting the purest signal to the card w/o other processing from plugins or other software.
