Help! I've had 2 earphones break down in the past week

About 6 weeks ago after I lost my ipod earbuds I bought some Griffin earthumps. I didn't like the feel of them very much so 2 weeks later I got a pair of Yuin pk3, which I liked, until last week when the right earphone started having major trouble working, then soon stopped working at all. I shipped it back and in the meantime was using the Griffin earphones, which worked fine until yesterday when the left earphone wouldn't work at all. I don't know what's going on, I don't recall having exposed either of them to moisture (except perhaps when I worked out with the Griffin phones once, a few days before they stopped working). Has anyone else's earphones just failed like this? I don't really know what to do now.

..Are you sure you're handling them properly? (not throwing them around or whatnot)?

If you wrap your earphone cables around your MP3 player and then stuff it all in your trousers pocket, like my boys do, then I give even the best earphones about 1 or 2 months before they start breaking from wire bending and stress. Both my boys have to buy themselves a new set of CX300 (they don't know about sound quality yet!!) about every 2-3 months.

It's tedious, but every time I use my earphones (sometimes, 2 or 3 times a day) I coil my earphones around 3 fingers and put them into a soft pouch that goes into a bigger pouch that holds my eaphones and Zune. I'm going on 2 years with my Zune, and six months on my RE0 earphones, with no signs of stress on them.

That might be it, I usually drop my earphones on my desk when I get home, and dangle them on my jacket when I'm walking around. For storing them, I would wrap most around three fingers, and wrap the rest around that coil to secure it.

I guess wires/ earphones are much more fragile than I had assumed? Do I really have to store them in a separate case?

Well they are small expensive pieces of audio equipment. You wanna take care of them so they work properly for a long time.

I use to toss my IEMs and headphones around, plop them down where ever, tangled, twisted, and tugged at the cords.
Most wouldn't last more than 1 month b/c I treated them like ****.
