Best pair of $100 2.1 computer speakers

Pretty much as the title says. Need a $100 pair of 2.1's for Music, movies and games. What would be the best bet? I've only ever bought headphones and laptop speakers before, so I am unsure what the best route is. I'd prefer to steer away from logitech as most of my friends have them and whenever I listen it is bass overload. Also I'm in Australia so some models may or may not be viable to buy.

I currently have my eye on the edifier s330d which pushes my budget a bit. Are these good or would you pick something else?

I'd look into stereo speakers, with a sub quality is going to major compromise.

I'm open to just stereo sets, but I fear that the impact of having a sub will be gone, although I haven't used many stereo speakers before. Sound quality isn't my biggest concern with these, rather a set that is enjoyable for using with movies and games.

My gaming PC has standmount speakers (B&W 601) and not lacking in bass. You can add a subwoofer later.

Oxymoron? A $100 2.1 setup is going to be a bit crap so I'd ditch the sub at least 2.0 speakers will be higher quality. I'd probably look into active speakers from M-Audio.

Yeah, ditch the sub in that price-category..

Creative T20s are rather natural in its price range. M-audio or Fostex wouldn't be too far.

Alright, so if I ditch the sub woofer what would the best choice be? I like the look of the creative T20's, is the T40 worth the extra $30?

The cheapest M-audio speakers I could find were the Studiophile AV 20 which seem to be ~AU$150 (US$135) over here despite having a US $80 price tag on the m-audio site.

I tried out both the T20 and T40, and for the money I'd rather stick with the T20s. The T40s do give more sound and felt like there was a bit more base, but I found it a bit boomier as well. They're also quite unwieldy and feel wobbly for their size.

I'd actually just wait another couple weeks until the Christmas sales start hammering in and check the local electronics flyers. $100 may not seem like much, but computer speakers tend to have pretty good sales around the holidays.

Yeah, the T20s are actually better. And if you're not in a hurry, Armaegis' plan's not bad.

Even my local office supply shops are selling off old 2.1 speakers, marking down from $60 to $20-30. I mean, they're crappy little logitech things, but I picked up a set for my noisy work environment anyways because it's good value for the money.

Thanks for the advice. I'm not sure whether I'll wait till the Christmas sales or not. I usually just go on staticice.com.au (price comparison site) and pick the cheapest pair including postage and 95% of the time that nets a better price than walking into store.

With the T40's being better, is that true for the series II version? A review here says that the T20 where a better choice for the original version, however not for the Series II. Assuming that the T20's are the better option for the new edition also, I'll probably grab them

I only had a chance to compare the T20/40 series I, not series II, so I'm no help there. Sorry.

100 or less and includes a sub? JBL Creature's.
