Heh.

Yours truly is getting along pretty well with a decent assortment of mid-fi gear at the moment.... but don't ask what I spent on music in the last year. (At some point this just gets more rewarding. The same music in even better is one thing, but entirely new great music is a whole different story.)
Oh, and I haven't been to the Headphones forum in ages.

It's a disease when, due to having better gear, I'm enjoying poorly recorded albums less than I used to because I notice their technical (not musical) flaws more.
Agreed. Some of the MP3s I have are basically unlistenable on my home system, and I enjoyed them more with my cheap HD201s, but I'll take this trade-off when compared to all the well-recorded music that I have heard so far.

I suppose it starts off as an interest, then it morphs into a passion the more you get into it. However, it then changes into a disease when you start blowing money you can't afford to spend on equipment that gives a miniscule improvement to what you already own.

In my case, all I can really say is that Head-Fi hasn't put me into debt, and I hope to keep it that way.

If, once you have reached the pinnacle in gear and you have a sense of sadness because the journey has ended so to speak, it is a disease.
