I was going to suggest this too. It'll give you more than enough power to fill the room. Another possibility (though it makes me cringe a little) is a guitar amp which you can easily find for cheap in a pawn shop. Lousy sound quality for general music, but boomy, rugged and portable should you ever want to use it outside. (and hey, you could always jam on it)

Actually, if you get a mixer to use with the active monitors, you could even patch through the guitar amp as a makeshift sub. Once again, it won't sound great, but most kids just care about volume anyways.

The A5's have really good connectivity options and sound awesome out of an iPod. They also get loud as hell, if you want.

Yeah I don't see why 5.1 has any advantage, it's really for movies or surround sound. Will there be anything but stereo music played through these? If not, do a 2.0 or 2.1 setup. Powered speakers would be best (simplest) in this case.

Between Logitech and Onkyo? Yes! A night and day difference (in audiophile's view ).

Just get a basic stereo setup and save some cash. Those Logitech speakers ain't designed for large rooms so they'll be even worse than normal in such a room, plus at that size they'll have been stolen within a week.

Audioengine A5,
You will probably end up running the logitechs in stereo otherwise, also confusing the hell out of people with the direction of the sound. Perhaps swans m200

5.1 surround systems have a fairly narrow sweet spot you need to sit in to get the effect. Just because there are more speakers does not make it suitable for large spaces, quite the opposite in fact.

No such systems are what you'd call "audiophile" sound quality ... but they are uber fun, great for gaming and movies ... and pretty decent for music as well.

Sounds like a decent choice for a school.

this is what i use in the room for movies, does a great job and i got it for an amazing price
