so i have a pair of grado hf2s, and all music comes from my computer. i want to get an apoggee duet to use for semi-portable and home use, and i was thinking of getting an amp to drive speakers. the question is do i need an integrated amp or could i just hook the duet to an amp and control volume either through my computers itunes/digital out, or through the duet volume control? i've seen some really great deals on rotel amps (trying to power magnepans) and don't see much reason in paying extra for an integrated, when all it will really do for me is control volume.

All I have to say is that their awesome pair of headphones. Great sound stage, vocals are a bit too strong, you can feel the bass other than hearing it, and great for movies. Comfort is 4.5...

You'd do better to have an analog volume controller and use a fixed digital out. But if the Duet has a volume control of some sorts, it's probably pretty good (not sure, haven't heard).

i found the answer to my own question. the manual here says that you can connect the duet via 1/4" jack outputs (it also includes 1/4" to RCA for normal speakers) to a set of powered speakers, AND control volume via the duet. this would imply that you can connect the duet to an amp and use it as a "pre-amp" in the sense that it does volume control.
