is there a resource or forum that will show me how to build a amp for full sized speakers (i don't know what they are called), i have a stereo and the center piece died but the speakers are still usable and i want to salvage them

i apologized in advance because this is off topic but this seemed a good place to ask.

It's called a power amp and there are many forums. I recommend diyaudio.com. You can also look at Pete Millett's DIY Audio pages Peter Millett's page for nice tube stuff.

If you're interested in getting your feet wet, the Gainclone is the power amp equivalent of a Pimeta as far as complexity and sound quality. Check out chipamp.com for more information. And, as mentioned, diyaudio.com is a great resource. If you get the speaker building bug, then head to the forums at Parts Express. Great group of builders over there that are very friendly to rookies. Amp builders hang out over there, too. In fact, one guy is just in the process of building a Gainclone.

Good luck and have fun. I'm actually coming from the other direction, just now getting into cans from the world of floorstanding towers.

There are many chipamps on eBay for reasonable prices. More reasonable if you just want the assembled board and can put it in a case yourself.

There are some Chinese amps at Ebay that look very interesting with LME49810/11/30 and either MOSFET or bipolar output stage. On paper they're really state of the art and ought to sound better than Gainclone or Class D amps.

What are opinions on the multitudes of "Class T" amps on ebay that usually use something like the TA2024?
