Hi I have a really nice Theta Chroma 396 HDCD DAC for sale.

It uses the BB 67P-K d/a chip, CXD1244 / PMD100.

CANCELED SALE.

This is a beautiful sounding older DAC from Theta. The Burr Brown 67P-K chip is 18bit ladder dac /8x.

I've been told that the 18 bit chips sounded more musical than some of the more modern chips. I'm not enough of an expert to tell, only that some of the other audio advice given by the same certain gentleman, very much turned out to be true to my ears.

The simple HDCD jumper 6db attenuation mod on the pmd100 chip has been done prior to me receiving it, which per the reviews at the time was the preferred route to take with this unit.

I also noticed the unit really sounded great with a PS Audio x Stream Prelude SC power cord, which I am keeping for use with another component.

I will pack it securely. I've got good feed back on audiogon, and ebay, but new here a few months ago. Please feel free to ask me anything. Thanks for looking.

The price is the same as what I paid. US$250. including shipping.

I prefer Paypal or personal check. PM me if interested.

BTW, I'd bought this DAC only a few weeks ago on Audiogon, while my Denon universal player was being upgraded, and I do like it very much but can't justify it now that my primary player is back. Below is a quote from the gentleman, who sold it to me which I believe to be accurate.

"This Chroma is in great condition. It sounds great and has produced a satisfying sound as I updated my system. It has the true Theta sound, I have owned a few Theta DAC's."
"So subtle were some of the differences between Chroma and Pro Gen V that I spent as much time monitoring through headphones " Theta Chroma Digital to Analog Converter Reviewed * By: Ken Kessler

He'd told me that he had recently bought the Pro Gen V (orig. price over 5K, used price recently around 1,300), and comparing the two, the nuances were so minor he wasn't sure he should sell it, but had always lusted after the Gen V, which he'd finally had a chance to acquire.
