Well first the noise volume is constant regardless of volume position. I would not call it a thump but more of a crackle, like the static you may hear on a bad contact. It is not that loud in fact if I have music playing at a comfortable level (i.e. I can still hear the wife yell for me through my grados) I can just barely notice the crackle when I hit the power button (most is masked by the music).

Yes this is more of me being anal, but I really do not like finishing a nice listening session by hearing a less than appealing noise. (i know take the headphones off first)

I have no issue with someone confirming my own personal OCD tendencies

So Beefy - your MMM has a similar turn-off noise? I have nothing else to compare it to than my mini3 which has no noise.

As I said, the exact same thing. It is a quieter turn off than my MiniMax, which crackles in an identical way - just louder.

Cetoole suggested switching to a 24V relay with a 78L24 regulator instead of the zener diode arrangement on the MAX V1.2. That's what we're now using, but I tested it first on a MiniMAX. The turn-off transient is so fast at the higher voltage that I can't even measure a spike with my DMM's (including a Fluke). It's just a very quick "click" that you hear through the headphones. I suspect that the higher voltage relay is able to snap off much more quickly than the lower-voltage types. The regulator may have something to do with it, too.

EDIT: Note that we had to re-calculate the delay equation and the resulting parts ratings, too.

Yeah

This one has a bigger footprint but I think should fit and is in stock.

This one is fine too, the coil current is higher, so ε24's 7812 regulator will run warmer. If it's too hot then you should attach a heatsink to it.
