SOLD: Eddie Current Zana Deux (UK)

Excellent condition. Purchased from Head-Fi's Blackmore, 08/2008. Will include a spare pair of (new) matched 6C33C output tubes and a couple of vintage VT-231's (WWII vintage 6SN7's) if you pay the asking price.

Pictures to follow.

Answers to FAQ's.
1. Power Supply primary is wired for EU, 230V. (Although I believe it can be re-wired for 110-120V.)
2. This ZD does not have the high/low impedance switch! ie. it is not the latest 'SE' version of the amp.
3. I'd prefer not to have to deal with international shipping if a buyer can be found in the EU, or preferably the UK.

Asking price is SOLD. Price includes insured shipping to a UK mainland address. Payment via direct transfer to bank account or PayPal. (If paying via PayPal, price is plus 3.5%. ie. buyer pays the PayPal transaction fees.)

NB. Feedback links in my sig.

will you consider shipping to israel after all? 230v's are hard to come by nowadays

btw, which imepdance is this amp suited for? high or low?

I think the shipping cost is going to be rather expensive. I'm waiting for someone in the UK to come back to me. If that falls through, I'll get a price for shipping to Israel and we can discuss.

I'd recommend its use with 300R Senns or high impedance Beyers, not 32R Grados.

The Zana is still for sale!

I have been asked by several people to expand on the comment above that the Zana is more suitable for high(er) impedance phones, not 32R Grado's. This is an opinion, my opinion! The amplifier I am selling is not faulty! There are people who use Grado's with the "standard" ZD and love the combo.

My personal opinion is that it is not optimal, for 2 reasons....

1. Output impedance - The 12R output impedance is low, but not low enough IMHO for 32R Grado's. (No debate required. I own tube amps that have 1R output impedance.)

2. Sensitivity - Grado's require very little voltage (relatively speaking) to be driven loud. Whilst the ZD uses a decent (again, relatively speaking) Alps Blue volume pot, still the channel matching is not as good as it could be on the first few degrees of rotation, and that is where you will be listening with low R/high sensitivity phones, assuming you listen at reasonable levels.

As I already stated, this is an original ZD, not the later production Special Edition that has the high/low output switch. I do not know this for fact, email Craig for facts, but my assumption is that the "low" setting of the SE version implements more feedback. If this assumption is correct, there will be 2 consequences directly relevant to this discussion. It will lower the output impedance and reduce the sensitivity. ie. make it more suitable for low impedance phones, like Grado's.

Believe it or not, I do want to sell this amplifier. Whilst I can wholeheartedly recommend its use with Senns or Beyers, my opinion is that it should not be bought "blind" if you intend to use Grado's.
