We'll see about that...
XLR interconnects are typically sold individually, not as a 4 conductor cable with wire pairs coming off each end. Don't see why headphone cables aren't done like that for balanced setups, except for the convenience of complainers who want one single headphone cable. In the very least, it can't hurt to do things that way. In fact, this design is sort of catching on, as I see that the new SAA Endorphin headphone cables are two separate cables twisted together, and very possibly shielded, then they join up at the 1/4" plug. Just have to take one more step - add XLR plugs, and unwind.
