Request for a test on the Klipsch Image S4 - Page 2

Wow, that is weird. I have none of that on the version I have. Oh well, it's a mystery. I do remember wincing now and again listening to that first Norah Jones CD, so I have a vague memory of some unpleasant sound. I think I heard it tonight on Cold, Cold Heart on the Sony X with the Altec-Lansing im616s. Had to turn the volume down. It's not the S4s, however.

I don't know if this help, but I found a version I had downloaded from a musicstore that's from the 2002 original CD. Comparing this with my rip from a 2004 remastered vinyl release, I do hear clipping on the 2002 version in the mentioned parts of the song using my MS1 or the Klipsh, but not on the 2004 version. It's not by much to my old ears, but enough that I can A/B it 10/10 in Foobar.

Measuring the two versions with the TT Dynamic range meter, also shows that 2002 version has a Dynamic Range of 8-9 db whereas the 2004 remaster version has a range of around 12-13 db.
When the dynamic range is below 10 db, it is basically a very good indication that too much compression has been done to the song during mastering.
