I would love to do that, except that I would be risking a permanent ban ("block") from Wikipedia for disparaging any company's products on the Wikipedia entry for that company. The only thing that I'm allowed to say in that article is "<insert brand here>'s products have been criticized by many for their low performance to price ratio" (or words to that effect).

The sound quality on the Bose is actually quite intriguing-the bass is extremely heavy and the highs are extremely clear. Straying away from Bose's normally thick and heavy mid-range, they seem to focus more in on the punch of the low-end, which is amazing, mind you. When you have a bass-heavy song, it seems as if the headphones are vibrating off your head, but you still feel the kick of the drum pedal or the grunge of a bass guitar. The lows are, by far, the best I've heard for a sub-$300 headphone.
Since when were headphones supposed to vibrate off your head? How is that a good thing? I listened to the AE and OE triports and I have to say I wouldn't buy either at any price. You are right that they have boosted bass and treble, they are designed to sound good to somebody who has only listened through ibuds and computer speakers. If I had never heard a good headphone than I would think "wow, the bass is great and I can hear details too!" But I have heard good headphones as well as actual instruments and I can tell you the triports have waaaay too much bass. It overpowers everything and makes the sound dark and muddy. I think once people learn what realistic sound is they will realize the triports are not it.

Just because you own something that is supposed to be high-caliber doesn't necessarily mean you fully understand and thus appreciate it.

I'm compelled to throw my two cents in at this point. I recently purchased the Bose OE TriPorts and, it's true, I returned them two weeks later. At the time I was looking for small comfortable phones that had a decent sound, but after those two weeks I found that the Bose sound just wasn't what I was looking for.

In your review I think you give a reasonably fair assessment of the Bose bass: it is definitely in your face, and if that's what you want, then yay. for my own tastes (read: not elitist), the bass was far too overpowering, basically dominating the mids and making the highs anything but clear, to my ears. An additional result of the crazy intense bass is a crazy cramped soundstage. You are right about that wash of sound.

now, regarding the price. i think that at this price point it's a given to say that better sound can be had, but when considering the overall bose package of size, convenience, and comfort, i think that $179.99 isn't terribly overpriced. if sound isn't your top priority (which is of course most people), I think these Bose headphones are fine choice.

Well. have a chance to listen to this for 1 hour. Well, the price was 180 euro, so... it's even more expensive than in US.
I liked supercomfort, style & build quality - this is great. Cable is great for portable & replacable (big plus). My At ES7 sucks here.
THE SOUND:
Well, i don't like it, but sure a lot of people will find it nice. I caompared them directly to es7. main differences. Bass on Bose is 2x or 3x much than AT. It's vey puncy, fun, but for me that's were too much.
Mids... Eh... Where are they? After At there were almost absent. Maybe in electronic it's not so important, but on other styles i feel lack of it very much.
Highs. Remind me somewhat AKG k518Dj. A lot of people describe them as crystal clear, but this crystals are very edgy :-) Phones are not sibilant, but uncomfortable for me to listen.
Soundstage - not so wide. Just typical for portable cans at 100$ mark.
Transperency - they deffinitely lack it, especially compairing to Ety 4p & ES7.
Overall, i need to say that i listen to them from my Kenwood player & that's the main trouble - it's too detailed & full sounding to them :-) . Most people will listen to this from ipod & the sound would be great for them - this phones are already equalized to my ears & a lot of people find it the best for everyday use.
But... At the price tag is very high. Especailly compairing to my ES7 (54$ refurbished).
