[SOLD]: Stax transformer box, Illusion ESC-1001 - 450 Euros

After months of hesitation, I am finally considering selling my Stax transformer box Illusion ESC-1001.

I always had in my mind the possibility to go back to stats. But the recent (and probably future) releases of new top of the line electrodynamic cans by major manufacturers is for me a definitive argument in favor of electrodynamics.

The unit for sale is in absolutely mint conditions. I am the original owner, and it was bought directly from Jack at Tachyon Limited, back then when it was still manufactured and distributed, in 2006.

I am pretty confident in saying this is one of the very few units available outside Japan and one of its kind for sale on head-fi over the recent past years. This is a trully unique piece of gear. MRSP was 65.000 JPY then (excluding transport and custom fees).

Thank you for your interests and reading.

This unit is especially recommended for those starting their head-fi journey from scratch, but have already a very nice speaker set up. No need to go for $$$$ Stax dedicated amps to trully enjoy you Stax headphones.

ILLUSION ESC-1001

Hi, I am sorry to see you don't manage to sell your ILLUSION, and I shall try to help you, though I don't understand why you sell this bomb !
After trying different SONYs, SENNHEISERs, AUDIO-TECHNICAs, BEYERs, AKGs (K1000) and STAXes, I think definitively (who knows ?) OMEGA2 MK1 is the best. But only if it is greatly powered !
So I tried different amps from STAX, WOO, RUDISTOR, all very goods.
And one day, I have read YOUR testimony on French forum HOME-CINEMA.
I bought one from Jack in Tokyo and I begun my quest for real amplification (I have no speakers).
Now I'm in pure heaven with :
- FORSELL AIR BEARING drive
- JMF AUDIO DAC (see jmf-audio.com)
- JMF AUDIO AMP (2 X 450W, pure balanced !!!)
- ACROLINK D5000 AES/EBU and XLR interconnect cables
- NEOTECH 1001 speaker cables
I sincerely feel nothing is able to beat it in dynamics, impact, transparency, soundstage, imaging and so on...
I expect my feelings will decide someone to buy it from you !

Thanks a lot Cavis for your very nice testimony.

Unfortunately, I do not see me anymore building a top of the line electrostatic rig. The total cost is just too expensive if you want to power the O2 adequately (nice power amp, speaker cables, good power cords, etc...).

But as you seem to point out, the Illusion should have no problem to drive optimally even the mighty O2. I confirm it will do a fantastic job with Stax Lambda (SR-303).

I am realizing that the strong devaluation of the USD vs EUR over the past 3 years is putting this sale out of reach for US buyers. Price originally paid (including shipping and customs) is 540 EUR. At today's rates, it makes little sense for US buyers.
