DIY Amp choosing

Hello,

I tried to browse the forum but got lost and did not find a good answer so I am asking directly.

Lets say I have 500USD Speaker valve amp
500USD Headphone valve amp

Can I have a truly HI-FI Valve amp for that amount? I am not talking about Headphone amps only here (Gonna have one of those too).

Anyways I need to decide quickly on something (quickly meaning in the next 3 weeks). The idea is ofcourse I could go and buy Darkvoice etc but I know someone who could tackle complicated projects and if I could find a nice project for my Speaker system and also a different one for my Headphone needs then I see no reason not to support him by ordering handmade stuff.
So if you could recommend me DIY projects that could fit into this budget then please do not hold back ah also this is for parts only Im gonna pay extra for work.

Thank you in advance.

Darkvoice makes very nice amps and are well regarded. Try and get a used 337 for that, you'll be happy.

Thank you for your reply,

I am seriously considering buying one but the idea was to support good DIY-er instead of a company. Thats the reason I asked it this way :P

So though Darkvoices are very attractive to me and I might buy one I ask if there is a nice DIY project comparable to Darkvoice 337SE in quality? Which could be done in 400USD (Cost of parts).

You might look at the Cavalli EHHA in SE mode. Are you suggesting someone build for free?

Going back to your post, it seems that you have a builder and want to give him a project?

Does it have to be 100% Valve or can it be Hybrid? If It can be Hybrid. You should read that EHHA thread you mnust posted in. That's going to one of my next builds.

I would like it to be 100% Valve I did read almost all of that thread...
For some reason I am liking the Tubes at this stage...
So the guy himself recommended me Morgan Jones designs

But I must say, sooner or later I will buy a bloody expensive commercial headphone amplifier only way to avoid it is to attend a CanJam and listen to highend amps to get the reference point and develop a grading system for myself.

The Bijou is another outstanding alternative, which can be done p2p, and with a wide variety of tube easily sourced worldwide.
