This the one I have. It goes slightly lower than retail. I got mine for around 20 bucks.
TLP707TEL - Protect It! Surge Suppressor
  • 7 outlets with child safety covers
  • 7-ft. cord with space-saving right-angle plug
  • Built-in RJ11 jacks prevent surges from damaging your modem/fax equipment; 6-ft. telephone cord included
  • Surge suppression rating: 1270 joules
  • EMI/RFI noise filtering
  • 15 amp resettable circuit breaker
  • Diagnostic LEDs confirm suppressor "protection present" (green) and "grounded" (red) status
  • Includes full normal mode (H-N) and common mode (N-G/H-G) line surge suppression
  • Can accommodate up to 3 transformers without blocking remaining outlets
  • Automatic cord management
  • Lighted power switch
  • $50,000 Ultimate Lifetime Insurance (USA & Canada Only) covers connected equipment
  • Lifetime product warranty

I'm actually going to replace my outlet with one of these as well.
AC Power Conditioner Wall Plate Orange Hospital Grade A - eBay (item 110443782247 end time Dec-08-09 03:02:27 PST)

You can do both for under 50 bucks.

Im also on the lookout for budget conditioner/surge protector within €150,- range. My brother got a Monster HTS800 Power center for €100,- which looks pretty good.
Most protector/filters seem to be 110v only or made for UK plugs.

Here's one available with either 8 or 10 outlets that might fit the bill:

The Pure AV Isolator is such a deal. I'm switching to that right now. Under 40 bucks too which retails at 120.

Also ordered it. Though i got the 8 output version, for much more but still cheaper than the Monster HTS800. Its damn hard to find here with the right power connection. For €70 im still not complaining and i can finaly kick out my old(OLD) ungrounded strip. Together with the Element Cable power cords i should be settled.

Would the benefits of a power conditioner/isolator cancel out if I use wallwarts (basically enclosed transformers outputting AC, not DC)?

The eBay listing expired, so I went ahead and impulsively ordered one of the Belkin Isolators from Amazon (10-outlet).

I have a Monster HT700. I use it with my TV, but I did try it out with my amp/dac. It screwed up the highs a bit and made my dac "digital-sounding" regardless of whether I used the cheap stock cable or aftermarket cable on it, so I went back to using a regular surge protector.

What power conditioner would you guys recommend that doesn't have this effect (if there is)?

The Belkin Pure AV ones we're talking about don't do that.

Has anyone tried the Monster HD PowerCenter 850G Green power?

Hmm, will try it out later.
