There is no question that the BHSE and O2 configuration is the best electrostatic setup I have owned (and I have tried the T1, KGSS, SRM-1 MKII and original BH). That being said the B52 and HD800 setup is the best dynamic setup I have owned and again I've tried quite a few great amps (Moth S2A3, Cary 300B, Cary SLI-80, Berning MicroZOTL, Headamp GS-X) and dynamic headphones (L3000, HD-600, 225, HF-2, CD3000, K701, K340, JH13 Pro).
you list classical, rock, jazz as your musical preferences. is one setup better for one genre over the other?

I'd like to think so but in practice I find I choose one over the other based more on my mood or circumstance than anything else. If I'm in the mood for jazz or classical I tend to choose the Stax setup more often but not always. I don't have a closed stat headphone (yet) so late I night I have to listen to my closed CD3000 on the B52 or suffer the wrath of my sleeping wife and kids. If I've been drinking or need to listen a little louder than usual I use the B52 with the 800's. I can't quite get the volume I need out of the Stax setup when I need it unusually loud.

I also have to take outside temperature into consideration. My listening room is very small so in summer when it's hot outside I usually don't listen to the BHSE much. It generates quite a bit of heat.

So you are one of the few that prefer unnatural soundstage, good for you! or it might have been because the speaker placement was horrid, this is a very common mistake. You could have a 200,000 speaker but if its not placed well then they will never give you the sense of realism a good speaker system should give..
I said:-
The speakers have the better soundstage,.
Am I missing something?
The speakers HAD the better soundstage.
The Orpherus had a better detailed and musical sound.

i'll soon have an RSA A10 on loan for a few weeks and plan to compare the A10/HE60 to my B52/HD800. i also will have a HeAudio 1.2B (the precursor to the Jade). too bad i recently sold my O2. would have been nice to have that on hand.

should be interesting though.
