Should I Redeem My AirMiles for an Ipod Touch?

So I have enough Airmiles (airmiles.ca) to redeem for an iTouch, should I do it?

I need to replace my iPod nano 4GB because it is running out of space. I only started looking, but I am considering the Clip+ (8GB), Cowon D2+ (8 or 16GB), or the Cowon S9 (32GB).

For whatever reason, every time I try to go to the Airmiles.ca website, I get a blank screen, no matter which of the various links I get from google. Even when I type in the address directly on the line. So I can't remember if it was 16 GB or 32GB, and the website doesn't say which generation it is. Is there any way to tell otherwise?

Please let me know what you think (I'm kind of new to all of these MP3 players). Even the nano was given to me, so I've never researched this stuff until now.

And now that I bought myself an RS2, I want to take advantage of some better SQ.

Cheers!

Shows the 8GB and 32GB, so chances are that it's the latest version. I'd say get it, the SQ is very good (to these ears), and the things you can do with an iPod Touch is endless. If SQ is your top priority though, it might be advisable to research other DAPs, as the Touch is quite an expensive toy, especially if you use it only to listen to music.

Not if you want to travel to Las Vegas, no.

To me it depends on your needs/wants. If you want something that can do all that the Touch does, like watch movies, access the Internet, play games etc as well as listen to music, then it might be a good fit for you.

However, if you just want to listen to music, my suggestion would be to get something simpler, like the Clip+ as you mentioned.
Personally I like the Clip+ as it's simple to use, expandable and most importantly has good sound quality. However, if you have a lot of ALAC and AAC files, then a 16gb Nano might be a better choice if you are adverse to converting your music.

It's short and to the point, but couldyou provide any of your reasons. Bullet point wouldbe fine if you are short on time.

Thanks.

Wow, thanks for checking this for me. I knew the base model offered was 8GB, so I figured that the upper deal would be the next one up - 16 GB. 32 GB should be enough to carry me for a couple of more years at least.

Unfortunately I am still pretty new to this hobby, so I don't know much about any MP3 players. Especially the iPod brands because I was thinking about getting out of the iPod trap. I also remember reading a little about he SQ of the new 3G iPhone having much much improved SQ (except for the 8GB version still being the old SQ). But then I thought they said that this much improved SQ was not carried over to the Touch. So I wonder if this 32 GB model will have that much improved SQ?

I'm going to keep researching but it would be great if someone can answer this question.

Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean here. Or is this in response to azncookiecutter?

The primary purpose would be music.

I've never had a PMP before, so I don't know for sure yet if this would be something I would do often. How easy is it to get video onto the Touch? Can I download any video stuff from the internet on to it, or do you need to convert and do this and then that...? I recall reading that you had to do conversions to get video on the Cowon D2+ or maybe I misunderstood.

Sorry, I don't know what ALAC and AAC files are but I guess I could research that. And when you say that the 16 GB might be the better choice, is it because it's the video that takes up a lot of memory space and thus, requires you to go up to 32 GB. If I go for the iToouch, I would only consider getting through the airmiles redemption, which only has the option of 8GB and 32GB. I would definitely bypass the 32GB if I went for it. If I had to buy, my first choices right now are still Clip+, D2+, and S9 (probably in that order).

Thanks!

Yeah, imo you should.
Since you have enough Airmiles and seem to want one...

Actually the Touch wasn't on my radar. If airmiles had either the D2+ or the Clip+ in their rewards program, I would have definitely redeemed for one of those, but unfortunately they only have the Clip.

I'm going to do some research on the Touch 32GB now. It would be great if someone can possibly confirm which generation this is. Azncookiecutter thinks that it could be the latest (which is what? 3rd generation now?). I'll see what I can find in my research and report back here if no one else has the answer.

Thanks.

Sorry, I didn't mean to embarrass you. I'll see what information I come up with in the next few hours.

So I went back to the link https://www.airmiles.ca/arrow/Reward...tId=prod263870 that azncookiecutter provided above (while at my sister in laws place as it is still not working for me on my home computer right now) and I did a search on the model number that is provided on the airmiles website. According to that model number, it is the third generation as quoted on multiple vendors such as Henry's, Vistek, Future Shop, etc.

Does anyone have any first hand experience with the SQ of the 3rd generation 32 or 64 GB iPod Touch? I get some pretty mixed information but maybe that's because some of those post'ers are not audiophilers (sp?). At this time, I would be pairing it up with my SoundMagic MP21 IEM or my Grado RS2.

I need to decide soon because my friend in Toronto will be coming to visit us here in Hong Kong in about 4 weeks, which is the estimated amount of time that Airmiles requires to ship (included in redemption) their goods (and they will not ship it internationally).

Any help or comments would be appreciated.

Cheers!

Can't comment on the SQ, but if it's anything like the 2nd gen touch, it's on the neutral side. Now, some people may not enjoy it, and prefer another brand, and they're very vocal about it, but personally, I enjoy it (might be because the UM2s are nowhere near neutral). The SQ is certainly nothing to sneeze at.

Videos are dead easy to convert, just get CCCP and iPodME, and it'll be able to convert at least 95% of the video you throw it at. Then just drag it through iTunes to the iPod, and it'll be on it.
